When I first went through Prairie Portage nearly thirty years ago, the ranger's name was Mr. Solomon, I believe. He was an older soft-spoken fella. One of the things he said in his speech has stuck with me throughout every trip I've ever made: "Remember, gentlemen - when you hurt in the wilderness, you hurt for a long time."
Wise words!

Yes, interesting; a great summertime retirement gig...for someone whose spouse wouldn't kick their butt from here to eternity!
Still, it's ALMOST worth the battle as it would get me away from Florida during much of its torrid tropical jungle season (May thru October). Ah, the stuff pipe dreams are made of!
On the other hand, come to think of it, I'd be forced to WATCH all of those excited folks headed for Northwoods adventure while I was largely tethered to a desk most of the time. Hmmm...maybe the Congo or the Amazon or wherever jungle this is isn't so bad, after all? That Ranger gig might amount to torture.
Such are today's musings from the Tropics, anyway.
Later,
Jimbo

I got a job application announcement for Quetico in my Facebook feed today. It appears they are trying to hire someone to man Prairie Portage Ranger Station. Interesting.....
