	The Krispy Kreme post has got me thinking, what is everyones favorite canoe country treat. I've tried the freeze dried "apple brown betty" and was pretty impressed. Whats worked for everyone else?

	The jello cheesecake mixes work pretty well. If a rookie will be making it, I always give them a pan and a spoon to make the crust before we pour in the cheesecake mix. If there are no rookies then we do it the veteran way and just mix the crust right into the cheesecake. The rookie way doesn't taste any better but it's good entertainment. Another good one is to make vanilla pudding and stir in some miniature Oreos (they come in a bag). You can add a few drops of peppermint extract to the pudding if you want. Warm tortillas with butter, sugar, and cinnamon is also mighty tasty if you realize you've overpacked on tortillas. Or if you also have dehydrated apples, rehydrate them with hot water, drain, mix in cinnamon and sugar and roll up in a tortilla.

	You mean there's more to camping desserts than Copenhagen and Scotch? Kidding actually. Cheesecake is a standard and we put the dutch oven to use for brownies as well.

	My favorite is my wife's trick learned from her Brownie days: slice an apple in half, spoon out both cores, put squeeze margarine in one half, brown sugar in the other, put the halves together, wrap in foil and roast in the coals. These are great because you can save them for late night after the food bag's up. To kick it up a notch (thanks Emeril): warm up a little brandy and flambé the apple right before eating. Oh baby.

	Here's one of my favorites: Rice Pudding 1 cup Minute Rice 1/2 cup raisins (or other dried fruit bits) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 cup Instant Milk 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon Lemonade Powder At Home: Bag all ingredients together. In Camp: Add mixture to 2 cups boiling water. Stir. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes. 4 servings.

	???There used to be a old Brown Betty desert made by Betty Crocker that was called apple easy. It was fantastic! But it was discontinued and I haven't found one close yet. Is there any out there in the instant variety that anybody has great success with?

	Hey woods - Any kind of baking apple - Jonathan, Macintosh. Avoid the "eating" apples like red delicious - they get too mushy. As for time, I'd say about twenty minutes or so, depending on the heat of the coals of course. Rotate and flip them a lot. You can squeeze them with your hand or poke them gently with a stick to see if they're getting soft - just be careful not to puncture the foil and lose all the "good stuff" sizzling away in there. Enjoy!
