Wenzel Load Hauler ?.......I'll splint my leg with a sapling and duct tape, and walk out first.

Stumpy,

Ah, that would be a much better solution for the both of us!
Being "directionally-challenged", I would simply follow your duct-taped, leafy, limping, splinted self to the Bushwhacker's Paradise in the middle-of-nowhere.  Once we arrived, I might even have some medication for you, useful in alleviating pain resulting from broken ankles (tick & mosquito bites, hook barbs in thumbs, whatever ails you).

Of course, I suppose I should allow for the distinct possibility that you distill your own vintage medication from wild berries, bug larvae, tree sap, and such.

Hmmm... that might well be an improvement over what I carry.

Jimbo

I've been reading about the Jamboree for the couple years you've been talking it up.  It sounds interesting, and I'm sure it would be a hoot.
I guess the big question I would have is this:  Exactly how are we going to know where this location is?   Are you going to give a grid location, a GPS location or show a picture of a map with a tack in it?
Setting a meeting spot is nice, but considering the terrain, it has to be a real place with real coordinates.  The last thing I want to do is wander around through the woods for 2 weeks trying to find a spot that only exists on a Website and in your imagination.

dwight....Don't worry about it.
There will be no doubt about its location after I post it on 12-7-2004. If it stays where I am now considering, I could describe it in a paragraph. I want the challenge to be in the distance to the bushwhack and then crossing the final terrain...not in playing a location guessing game.
I might post a piece of map with an arrow saying "here".
I might describe it perfectly or with obvious clues. If it is with obvious clues it will be very simple...just hopefully witty. I'm sure others on the board will come out and state where I mean in that case. I would correct any misinterpetations.
It will be on a lake about the size of Side Lake in Quetico (biggest hint I've given out yet).
But I never said it would be easy.

Stumpy-we all look forward to the challenge and the secrecy and thinking about where it might be is half the fun to me. Thanks for the new clue it may confirm my current thoughts about where we are headed. I look forward to meeting all the others bushwackers in 2005, especially you Stumpy. I will bring a couple of stories to add to yours that will be new to all in attendance. See you in 2005-bogwalker

Hi,
I'm just dragging this old thread up because the anouncement date for the Jamboree is just 1 year away (Dec. 7th, 2004).
The only change is that, out of respect for this website and all the wonderful people here, I am changing the anouncement time to 7:00 PM. CST. This means that you will all be the first to know the dates and location...not that it really matters, because permits won't be available for another month after that.
If you don't already know about the Jamboree, just go back to the start of this thread...it's all there.
Or, you can search the "old forums" to read about the start of this idea, 3 years ago, by a younger and cockier, Stumpy. (bad words to throw together Wink)
Keep crashing brush and I'll see you in 18 months !.....

Stumpy,
Thanks for bringing it 'back up.'  Those of us who are new members now have a great excuse to buy a whole new set of maps and do much dreaming and planning.

I'm going to have to practice this 'bushwacking with a canoe' thing.  I have done off-trail in the Rockies and the Ozarks with a backpack - but humping a kevlar helmet through the woods sounds like a whole different experience.  This may even change my thinking on what the requirements are for my next boat.

Thanks for the new dream!!

I use an aluminum helmet.
Why 05 ? because it's a nice round number...and easy to remember if we do it every 5 years.
Also, some people have been planning on it for a few years now, and I don't want to pull a switcheroo on them. I remember some guy saying his son would be a good age to go then....But will he be old enough for the Jug ?? who knows !
