Before the blessed event...er, I mean Rendezvous, I'll try to get a list up with some potential "helpful hints".
Say, around June 1st or so....that enough time ?
It won't be a route in there...just a few thoughts, like......

expect black flies, maybe lots of them.

not to imply, I've thought of everything   Wink

Well said Jimbo,
Maybe I should just let you take over as the MC at Bullhead Slough.
and...
Of course I knew YOU did'nt need any "helpful hints". I was mearly thinking about those unfortunate souls, that have never talked their brothers into a dried-up, creek folly.

Also, I'm already thinking up excuses for losing to Woods Walker in that arm wrasle.....I can't hurt my poor wittow arm, before I get my butt out of here....I better get some dry ice, for that steak.

How about, the log roll, hatchet toss, and fire walk, for the other events ?   All while wearing kilts...of course !

Stumpy -

Fire walk in kilts??  Sounds like a real weenie roast.  Shocked

I'll pass on THAT competition, thanks.   Lips Sealed

Nevertheless...    Roll Eyes

IN ONLY 68 DAYS A FORTUNATE FEW WILL BEHOLD THE SPECTACLE OF THE MODERN VOYAGEUR AGE!!  A TRUE CANOE COUNTRY HAPPENING!!  A CHANCE TO ENCOUNTER EXOTIC NORTHERN LIFE FORMS... AS THEY PARADE THEIR MEANDERING WAY TO THE CHUB POND, OR ALTERNATIVE RANDOM DESTINATIONS, WHICHEVER THE CASE MAY BE.   Kiss

And don't forget those fabulous DOOR PRIZES for the first several voyageurs who stumble their way into Bushwhacker's Paradise!!   Wink

Wonder if we can get NASA to focus their satellite cam on Stumpy's Pond to capture the wave of humanity descending upon it, not unlike recent events in Rome? Stumpy and Jimbo, have you looked into this? I think a live feed into the QJ website would be nice, so we can cheer on our favorite voyaguers. You may want to provide jerseys or uniforms so we can readily identify the teams. You guys will certainly want to bring your wireless laptops so we can all share the experience in our bugfree zones. What's the date and time again, so we can all tune in? BTW, who do the Sox play at that time?

Old_Salt,

Everyone knows that Stumpy will be the guy in blue leotards,  red cape, & with a big "S" emblazoned upon his chest.

It shouldn't be THAT hard to pick him out, even if the satellite picture quality is somewhat lacking....

Hmmmmmm, great picture PJ!!  However, it prompts this question:

Just ONE "float plane"???

I suspect we should be talking to Stumpy about the logistics of tethering a heavy-duty "dirigible" at the Chub Pond....

Hey PJ,

Are you a member of the band?   If so what instrument do you play in the band?

Bruce,

PJ welcomed me to a "regional" QJ chapter meeting nearly two years ago with a bagpipe solo serenade.  It was as fine a performance as anyone in the North Country could ever hope to hear.

The man is a true professional & artist with the pipes.

Sure, I give him a lot of crap about the occasional pig-strangling sound qualities of those pipes in general (in the hands of an amateur) AND of their serving double-duty providing a "sonic cone of protection" against bears, bugs, & such.  Nevertheless, I fairly often DO think about something PJ posted, many moons ago.  In that post, PJ set up an intriguing Quetico fantasy scene at twilight.  He asked us to imagine the somber, wavering chords of "Amazing Grace", reverberating across the waters in evening stillness as the sun went down.

IMHO, there could be no more fitting way to end a first day of Jamboree than to hear him play that tune.

In fact, I hope my kids hire the guy to do JUST THAT when they scatter my ashes over Cirrus Lake (somewhere west of the birch bark beetle "infestation" area, of course).  They would be doing us BOTH a big favor.

PJ has always DREAMED of writing off Quetico as a "business trip"....
