How can I post pictures with a trip report and...

Q: "db, how can I post pictures with a trip report and or submit a pic of the day(pod)"

PODs can be sent to the e-mail address found by clicking the "Submit" link on the top of the page. I do have a backlog of images. I just put up what I feel like when I feel like it no matter when I received it. I do try to get new photographers in the rotation sooner rather than later and I need to process new images soon so...

If you want to use the Inukshuk photo gallery let me know I'll set up an account for you. It's nice because it will re-size and compress images for consistent and fast display plus it's pretty easy to use. (It's not great for a lot of text though.) You can then post those pics in the forum.

You could also just attach them to a forum post. The forum will take one attachment per post and display them at a consistent size but the file size needs to be less than 250K. Older ones may get deleted at some time though.

The other way is sending me everything for the story area. I'm a little slow on that though so it could be months before I get to them that way. Tripper's solo report a nice example. (He waited at least six months.)

There's always photobucket, imageshack and other basically free image services... Personally, I never trust anything 'free' these days though.

db,
I have a similar question:
I've just attached my first few photos to posts & notice that after I modify the post, they end up as inline images (which I don't necessarily intend).
Is there a way to control this?
Thanks!

I can change that globally but an individual user doesn't get a choice. It's all or nothing. Personally I don't care too much since I've been able to set a maximum display size. If a particular browser doesn't support the way that's done it just shows the link to the image. (In theory anyway.)

I can certainly see where some people would have an overall preference.

I think it's time for a poll.

Thanks.
I just don't want to clutter the threads & force dial-up users to download pics they don't want to see.

I'm not sure it's all or nothing either.  For instance, I look at this thread:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
and I see the paperclip & filename, but no inline image.  I can click to spawn another browser that shows the image.  (Arghh!  I just clicked on this link in 'preview' and now I get it as an inline image too!  I am sooooo confused.)

Here (where I was the image-poster)
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
I get the inline image, but only after I'd modified the message.

... Now I'm not sure what's going on - maybe the 2nd time I hit a link it shows up inline???

If this doesn't make sense, just ignore it!!!

Interesting. I tried four browsers:
Firefox MAC - shows image on the first load.
Firefox WIN - shows image on the first load.
Explorer MAC - always only shows the link. I was aware of that.
Explorer WIN - seemed to only show the images after reloading the page.

Explorer WIN - affects the most people. Displaying them "sometimes" would also be annoying so I turned that option off. I don't know if there is a conflict with my own scripting or that's one of reasons the image display size mod was never released as final.

A consistent maximum display size is very important to me. That beta script affects all images no matter how they are added to a post. I know that Explorer MAC doesn't understand what to do so it doesn't display any image. I also know that the geeks that write the code that tickles enough electrons to make this board go, design for Firefox because it's currently the best browser out there. (Their words not mine. I don't disagree though.) As long as things work for Windows Explorer I can only assume most visitors are satisfied.
