Saurkraut Hash

I know, it sounds strange.  but last night I chopped up a hard smoked andouille sausage and sauteed it with some red onion.   When it all looked good I dumped a 6 oz can of Saurkraut in with it and stirred it around until it was all cooked.  I have to tell you, the tiny extra weight of the 6 oz. can is worth it.  the meal took me 5 mins to cook and it was delicious.  The kraut in a can will obviously keep on a trip, and the andouille sausage will keep well too.  This is a great quick meal for a trip!

Sounds great, but you're not allowed to bring cans in the park Wink  You can pay your penance by taking out at least 2 more cans/foil/rope/twist-ties than you bring in.

I think that sounds good Grin
I like Kraut with Polish Sausage and potatoes baked in the oven.
My Half-German ancestry there.
Kraut would be one of those items that you could easily dehydrate.
Just too keep legal Grin

PS, My late Dad used too make a Chocolate Sauerkraut cake, that would knock you socks off! Kraut comes out tasting like coconut Huh
Google the recipe, you won't be disappointed

They also sell 'kraut in a bag. It is usually found in the refridgerated section. I'm not sure if it actually requires refridgeration.

Or you can buy it in the can, and dump it in a ziplock. If you carry cold items, I would keep it with them.

Just be sure you don't save it for day 8 of an August trip.  It will be deadly. Grin
