Well, JChief, you may get many different answers, but mine will have several facets. First of all, we don't fish, so that isn't a factor for us. I, personally, love the spring for a variety of reasons: I love the fresh green colors, the fact that the campsites aren't trampled down. I enjoy photographing and just seeing the spring flowers (iris, bunchberry, marsh marigold, violets, pink ladyslippers, wild lily of the valley, etc.) and seeing the loons, especially the nesting loons or the families with chicks. But mainly I appreciate the longer days. We have taken one September trip and one October trip. We found the short amount of daylight hours frustrating. This was especially the case in October.
Fall trips are wonderful, too. As you mentioned, there ar warm days and cool nights. I like misty mornings and those are in abundant supply. And the lack of traffic is a real plus. We are going in early September this year (we go to the BW) and I am sure we will enjoy being there at that time. But I will miss some things about spring. And next year I hope to go in June again, in spite of the fact that it is the buggy time! Just my two cents.
