What is the best route to drive to the Murdo Lake landing?  Off the Echo Trail or by way of Forest Road 457 out of Winton?  Now that the Chain Saw Sisters Saloon is gone( or is it ?) what's the parking lot like?  Thanks

Off the Echo Trail.  Take the North Grassy Road from the Echo Trail just after the Fenske Lake campground (assuming you are coming from the direction of Ely).  Veer left at the Y soon after you get on that road.  After several miles you will dead end at a T.  Go left.  The parking lot where Chainsaw Sisters used to be is now free to the public like most other BWCA lots.

With the help of an outfitter based in Ely, we left a vehicle at the Mudro entry for our 2008 trip.  They took the Echo Trail, and I suspect they would know best.

Chainsaw sisters is no longer there, but parking is available in it's place.  You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a spot, even if you have to walk a little ways.

You probably know this, but just in case....

If you want to avoid crowds, get there as early as possible in the morning, especially if you're leaving in mid summer.  It's a busy place.

There is a Forest Service campground nearby, Fenske Lake, that we have stayed at the night before going in.  You can reserve a site on-line.  Saves a bit of time compared to driving in from Ely.
