Good to Go next Saturday

I’m starting my trip next Saturday 5/29, I can’t wait, 7 days, starting at Nym going down to Sturgeon and then back. It will be me and only one my 23 yr old twin sons, in my 15 ft. cedar strip canoe with a QJ decal. It’s the first trip to Q for the stripper, so this weekend we are going for a trial run, fully loaded, on our local reservoir. She’s pretty wide so it can carry quite a load, but it may be a bit slower, which is OK since we plan to take our time and fish a lot, rather than paddle like mad men. Plans are to make Jesse on day 1 and Sturgeon on day 2. After that it’s pretty much open, except I want to be back to Batch on day 6, so I can get out fairly early on the last day. Me too...excited.  Planning circumnavigating the Western penninsula of northern Lake of the Woods...massive solo for me at 7 days and 60-70 miles.  Worried about windbound and open water...and a short bushwhack to Shoal lake.  I leave on the 30th.

Have a great trip!

2 of my biggest worries also, wind and open water. Just wait out the wind on shore and let it push all those big walleyes right to you.

You have a great one too!

Good luck on your trip.  I hope the weather is good because I start my trip this Saturday on May 29th from Beaverhouse and heading east into Quetico Lake.  Going with my son, age 25, who will be making his 9th straight trip with me.  Plus, a father son combination that I have never met before and neither have gone wilderness camping before.  Plus, I won't have any discussion with either of the two newbies.  My son is, however, a good friend with the other son.

So I am beginning to become a little nervous about doing this, but it will happen.   Basically, the newbies show up with their personal gear and fishing equipment and I provide everything else.  I remember reading some discussion about this on a previous thread.  So wish me luck.   I'll tell you how it turns out.  We will be returning June 4.

Westwood, Wally, Jimmar,

Wanna trade places, any of ye?

I have a couple of buckets brimming with stress to dump somewhere.

Sigh.

Prism
one that floats and hopefully seaworthy
alot of miles for this slacker alone.

75 mi paddle in 6 days....pending no windboud conditions....elsewise it will be mucho shorter.  If we start with wind...then I guess I'll just stay in the Tranquil channel area.  Really hope I see Ash bay, Ptarmigan bay and Shoal lake.

I've got to be in Crookston, MN  Sat June 5th, to watch my girl compete for a chance at MN state track....so no possibility of hold-over days.
