Minn Lake campsites

Anyone found any particularly appealing campsites on Minn that they'd like to share?

I'm aware of the one by the Darky inflow but don't plan to camp there.  It's right by the "highway" plus it's usually pretty trashy which says to me that it probably gets regular attention from a bear.

Snow Dog,
There is an Island on the South side of the lake, almost due south of where the Darky River flows out of the lake. There are a group of 4 islands and it is the "middle one" in the group. It is 7B in the PCD.
We camped there in the first week of Aug '09. Yes it has been somewhat worn, and there are signs of TP on the E end, but it is nice and open.
Lots of places to put tents. Old Grey Goose may be a little harsh in his assesment, after all it's a perimeter lake. If you want prime go further into the park.
Also, site 74 is a decent site as well. I have stayed there a couple of times. It is more sheltered but the landing isn't as nice, and it is not very open, but there are 2 decent flat spots for tents. I don't know what the comments about "burned out" are about, we paddled right past there last year and it looked fine. It is not used as much as 7B. Check them both out and make your choice.
Hope this helps. Good luck and keep your stick on the ice.

Thanks, Gene.  It's been ages since I camped on Minn and I wasn't especially fond of the site we chose that time.  Most of the time I've been passing thru with nary a look towards potential campsites.

Snowdog,

We had viewed site #74 from the water.  It is open in the respect that the tree cover is composed of small scraggly pines.  The site is not elevated much off the waterline.  It is centralized (obviously) and is in a pleasant surrounding.  You will have no wind shelter.
Site #5Z is up on a rock, 30 feet above the water and has a poor landing (water is deep and you have to step up on to sloping granite slab).  It does have a rising pine forested terrain behind, a nice view to the north and east, and medium height pines throughout the camp.
Site #5T might not exist (I have it crossed out on my map).
Site #5P looked nice from the water, maybe the nicest of the 4 we surveyed.  I agree with your accessment of the Darky river inlet site.
