Have you ever hired a LLCFN guide?

The recent diversion on the 'Beaverhouse entry' thread got me to wondering if others have used LLCFN guides? I never have, and don't have any plans/needs to use them. But your experiences may be different than mine.

My understanding, subject to correction, is that the current agreement with them expires in 2014, just a few years from now. As you may know, they can pick 10 lakes from a list of 20 lakes where they can use 9.9hp motors, and live bait to conduct their guiding activities. They can also fly in to 2 lakes each year. They don't make their choices known until the Spring of each year.

I don't know if any of them ever visit this site, but perhaps our input can be given to the Q Superintendant to factor into future Q Park planning. He, in turn, could provide this info to them if he so chooses.

So, go ahead and vote. Multiple choice is ok. Please feel free to share any experiences you have had with them, good or bad.

Well, kinda.

The night before my trip last year I met an Ottertail who said he has guided and did the interior park ranger thing for a while. Young guy. As much as I hate meeting new people, once we got to talking in front of the hotel, I peppered him with questions for probably two hours while drinking his beer. Nice guy. The offered and the beer store was closed. The man was an excellent ambassador.

I asked him similar questions to yours O_S. Names I recognized, coaches players, a governor....

On the sunset, I don't know and I don't care too much because I may have seen them on LLC and Minn and found a shore lunch cache on Cirrus once but beyond that, ya, I try to avoid the possible lakes/years and other's may too but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone even seeing a guided party on interior lakes. Anyone remember an old threads or have some newer experience to share on the sunset idea?

I once got a tow from Ed Ottertail to the portage going into Minn.

Really nice guy... he was right on time for the pick-up as well at Black Robe Protage.

Might be wise to distinguish between "guides" and "outfitters".  I, too, have used Ed Ottertail on multiple occasions.  That experience has been limited to tows, truck-ins, and shuttles; never as a "guide".

Good point Jimbo. New question, have you ever hired a LLCFN outfitter or guide? Part of my curiosity is whether the 'advantages' they have are advantages worth paying for.

Never hired them, but May 06, saw /talked to them on Portage from 3 Mile into Wolseley lake.

It was 2 guides and 4 fisherman. The guides carried all the gear across, except the guys fishing rods. That included coolers and live bait and motors/fuel cans. The customers just stood and watched, even though a few times it was obvious the guides could of used a hand. One of the cached boats hadn't been turned over and was full of water from recent rains. The two guides strained to pull it up and turn it over. I stepped in, the customers just stood there.

I was rigging my rods, so even though I was there first, I stepped aside and let them thru.

The four fisherman were what I call " Lodge" type guys. They thought I had lost my mind Grin They said they had gotten their Waldo limit everyday in a few hours and then back to camp for cards and refreshments.

I think you and the other seasoned fishing types here, could find/catch as many fish as they did, but would work harder for the privilege.

They told me they were working some reefs on the Eastern shoreline. They invited me to come down for a shore lunch but the wind prevented me from paddling down. It eventually drove them off lake as well.

I could see hiring them if time was a premium, you had physical problems or had little fishing experience, but you and SD among others here, would qualify as "guides" for probably the majority of people who come too the BW/Q.
