Duct Tape Plane

This may be old news, but I first saw this yesterday.  Will be some interesting talks with my students during our Science of Flight class next week.

This event occurred about a year ago as far as I can tell.  During a private "fly-in" fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness, the chartered pilot and fishermen left a cooler and bait in the plane.  A bear smelled it and trashed the plane.  When the pilot returned to see his wrecked plane, he used his radio and had another pilot bring him 2 new tires, 3 cases of duct tape, and a supply of sheet plastic. He patched the plane together, and FLEW IT HOME !

At first I thought, NO WAY!  But then again.  Hard to believe a pilot would have the kahunas to risk flying this plane back out...

I guess it should make you think twice if you are in the habit of stashing your food under your Kevlar or aluminum canoe.  Remember to bring plenty of duct tape.  Wink
