Is that still around?

We flew in and out of there back in the 80's but I thought I heard it went away at some point.

Is Crane Lake still a point of re-entry?

Checked in there in 2004 (and picked up a fishing license).  Don't know if there have been changes since then.

Sand Point customs is still there and is likely to remain for quite some time.  There is plenty of boat traffic on Sand Point and Namakan Lakes and a long stretch of border there to boot.  They stay plenty busy on enforcement if nothing else.

And yes, Crane Lake still has a US Customs station.  Unlike some places up in that area <cough>Ely<cough> they are very serious about checking back in.

It's my understanding that the "store" that was next to the customs is what might not still be there. I think my cousin with whom I usually go up fishing with every year but didn't last year because of my canoeing bug, had to go to a Canadian resort to get their licenses and camping permits just north of there. This year I plan to meet them in Thompson, but plan to use my RABC and get license and camping permits at Campbells on Lac La Croix. Then go in the "back" way.

THAT could be what I'm thinking of.

Yeah, the Crane Lake folks were vigilant. Couldn't leave the dock without the twice over. As it should be.

Customs is still there, usually pretty brief once-over. We check in there every year in our fly-in trip...some years we've not even had to get out of the plane...just answered the usual questions and handed over passports.  Haven't been in the store since 2006, although I thought I heard it was no longer open.
