Thanks for posting that. I had already knew from his previous book that the black bear mothers were not nearly as defensive as mama griz but I thought it interesting that males were responsible for most attacks resulting in death. That seems, based on his audio interview, to be a surprising finding from what was previously known.

Sure attacks are rare but what has my attention is I believe the risk factors go up considerably when you are solo as opposed to a group. Rough way to go. I'll just travel my usual style..........rather quietly.......... pausing from time to time to listen.............and being armed and dangerous myself.
