Intriguing.  Now the big question is, will it cause me to grow extra appendages Shocked or give me cancer  Angry if I put it on?  Could be years before they get it approved for use as a repellant.

Almost as, or maybe more intriguing is the potential to use it in agriculture to stop insect damage.  Lots of questions to be answered there as well.

I think I'd like to buy a little stock of whichever corporations they license it to for commercial applications.  Cheesy  Could be huge if it pans out...

I see it's funded by Bill Gates.  Finally the blue screen of death for a good purpose.

But thanks to you good buddy, we can foil their evil plans and put it to our own good use Wink
Considering what's going on along our southern border on a daily basis, I'm thinking a test spraying ( when the wind is right) might be a good idea Grin
If it repels winged pests and makes eunuchs out of the 2-legged parasites then it's a win/win in my book  Roll Eyes

Yeah interesting - but things are still at an early stage. Maybe 5 years from now we'll see something, maybe 10.

But if it's 1000 times as effective as DEET, then you only need 1/1000 the quantity to get the same effect. That has to be a good thing.

I remember seeing something on the TV news a couple weeks back regarding a new repellent which disrupted the mosquitoes sensors/nerves &, therefore, their ability to function.  I was only half-paying attention but it seems to me it involved an extract from yellow pine trees (or some kind of relatively common fruit).  Not only did this stuff keep skeeters away, it made them fly upside down, fall to the ground, and do the funky chicken while lying on their backs.  Eventually they literally shook themselves to death.  The short documentary did the old bare-arm-in-the-aquarium-full-of-skeeters test.  First, the volunteer sticks his untreated arm in & hundreds of the little bastards try to exsanguinate the guy.  Next, the volunteer inserts his treated arm and, seconds later, the little vampires are all flying upside down, drunk & disorderly-like, smacking into glass walls, & eventually shuddering themselves to death doing the funky chicken on the aquarium floor, while staring up at their missed meal... that guy's arm, which has zippo skeeters on it.

Anyway, this stuff applies quickly, doesn't smell, is not sticky, and lasts a long time.  It doesn't just keep skeeters away; it kills them.  I remember they said it would be 3-4 years before they could go commercial with it.

The volunteer apparently loved the stuff.  He has also indicated his Friday night poker play improved significantly when that new sixth finger fully matured on his dealing hand....

My biggest concern would be the effect up the food chain.

I don't hate the biters.  I hate it when they bite me.  The rest of the time I love the little buggers!  They feed the fish and other good stuff.

I don't really want to kill them.  I just want them to go away.  That's how a repellant should work, by repelling.  While DEET is a poison, bugs don't try to land on it.  I don't get bit and there are mossies to feed the fish.  Win Win Win!
