Trying to find Rainbow Falls

Somewhere in BWCA?  I have a buddy who recently died.  We had been up to BWCA twice in 30 years and his wife asked me to find out where Rainbow Falls is.  She is looking to scatter ashes there and perhaps needing a guide to take her there.

Sorry for your loss but no clue here. Could be a one trip wonder type thing....

FWIW - I can somewhat relate and I hope my being frank is acceptable. My dad is in a nice wooden box on a shelf in my closet as my frugal mother want's to take him down with her. No sense digging him up again so everyone was happy with the cost savings when I said he can hang out with me until that last hole is dug.

Personally, I'd like to be sprinkled someplace nice only because whoever volunteered would get a meaningful trip out of it. When my mom passes, I may hold a little back and plant a tree in my yard in his honor. He died rather unexpectedly so/but/and knowing him, I expect whatever I decided would be fine by him.

I did a "find places" for Rainbow Falls in MN using TopoQuest -

nothing found - so it is not a named place on any USGS Topo

may have just been a made up name for a place someone found attractive - may have seen a rainbow there under the right light conditions

just doing "find" Rainbow comes up with a few hits.  A Rainbow Island in Mille Lacs Lake;  A rainbow Lake that I can't see the map of, A Rainbow Park in WIllmar MN,  A Rainbow Village Shopping Center, and a Rainbow Terrace Mobile Home Park.  No Rainbow Creek or stream or river - nada.

There is a Rainbow Falls Provincial Park in Ontario on the north shore of Lake Superior near Rossport but it is nowhere near the BWCA or Quetico. The park does feature a beautiful waterfall.

That's the only information I can add. Sorry.

Hi,  first of all, thanks for all the help.  I have been contact with my buddy's wife and she is not sure now if he said Curtain or Rainbow.   Can anyone tell me where Curtain Falls is and how difficult would it be to get there?  She is asking me to find out and I don't have a map handy.

Umm, sorry for chuckling a bit. Here's Curtain Falls:
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

While a memorable and unmistakable visual, that Curtain Falls more of a rapids than a mist producing type falls if that helps.

Not to be morbid, but I had that conversation with my wife and son a couple of weeks ago.  We were talking about burial, etc because of something that we had read, and I told my son that I wanted my ashes spread in a certain spot in Quetico (he knows exactly where), and that my main reason was so that he could have at least one more trip up there.  Frankly, I don't care what happens to my remains when I don't need them any more, but having my son spread my ashes gives him an excuse for at trip that no future spouse, employer, etc. could turn down.   Smiley

I have seen rainbows created by the mist at Curtain Falls, if that helps. Rebecca Falls is also quite scenic.
