This is a very well written book about adventures on the Nahanni River of the Northwest Territories in the late 1920's. Patterson's descriptions of the country and his adventures in it required me to slow down the page turning and envision what he was seeing and doing. I am nearing the end and only reading a few pages at at time to savor it through these dreary days of a late spring.

After having done the Nahanni two times, I thought it was time to read this book.  It is a great adventure read - this guy is going up the river which I cannot imagine doing.  Definitely "old school" paddling and poling and lining up the river, only portaging a few places.  It sounds like several of the rapids had been much harder in the old days.  Haven't finished it yet, it is a very "easy reading" book that I think anyone would like.  The last printing was 1970 I think, so it would be hard to find.  I borrowed a copy from the library.
