***New for 2013***
If you are going to Beaverhouse, Lac La Croix, or the Atikokan Entry station you will have to purchase your fishing licenses before arriving, as these stations will not sell fishing licenses.

yup. got them this morning + a sport card for my son - doing the same trip as last year, down to Sturgeon from Nym on June 1. Hope we have a few good reason for purchasing the licenses!

Plus, I heard a horror story about a "guy" that didn't renew his card in 2012 and like many paddlers, expected to take care of it in Atikokan.  Well the job seemed to take 5 hours and eventually the group took off without him.

This story is mostly true.

I suppose that is not as bad as getting to your campsite during a downpour where you realize that you left your rain gear at home.

Oh it was packed alright.
Some jerk removed it and packed in a sun-shower.

ive been having a lot of trouble getting my fishing license for this year. my card is still valid for another year, and i even contacted the bank saying that i would be buying stuff from up there (after of course they called saying weird purchases were happening on my account, such as dunhams sports, gander mt, fleet farm, gas at the station i always buy gas at, and the license). i still havent been able to get my license and it keeps denying me and doesnt say why. i sat on hold with the 800 number for 35 minutes before i pulled the plug on that. i also tried the email for support, but its not allowing me to update my email on the update page so its probably going to one i dont have anymore....

ugh!!

That's odd Jaximus, I bought mine and my son's a couple of hours ago and had no problems.  Undecided

after another 20 minutes of hold and no answer and another failed attempt to purchase it, my mother-in-law, the saint that she is, told me to try her credit card... worked flawlessly, must be some issue with the debit card/exchange rates or something.

it worked now

Do you get a printable license or do they send it? I usually get an 8 day conservation lately and it's hard enough picking which 8 days standing at the counter.

you can just go buy one in Atikokan at Canoe Canada outfitters (they open early, well before the park office opens at 8:30), or Voyageur Bait and Tackle, or at any of the outfitters along the way, at the Mine Centre Store etc.

could be a debit card won't work online - that happens often enough

Cool! In that case, can anyone recommend a decent tavern in Fort Frances to stretch my legs at before the final push? Someplace on the way near that bait shop before that scary bridge would be nice.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) is right in that area.  Not a ton of charm but its on the lake and you can imbibe outside.
