Thanks Joe.  Much white water?  Good fishing?  Lots of portages?  Trip report?  We were going to do that trip, but chose to paddle upstream from Artery back to Red Lake.

This was primarily a ww trip (the reason for the plastic canoe), so I didn't even bring a fishing rod. I know, heresy to most of you, but I am less of a fisherman than most QJers, and my canoe partner doesn't fish, so I figured why bother. More opportunity to lose things when we get dumped.

There is a portage around every stretch of ww, and we were portaging around most of the Class III's and up, so yes there were a lot of portages. All were fairly short and in good shape though, so the portaging aspect of the Bloodvein part of trip was pretty forgettable - in a good way. (Getting there was more challenging: there was still a lot of blowdown on parts of the Obukowin and Craven-Ford-Artery portages. It was good to get that over with at the beginning of the trip).

No trip report due to time constraints, sorry! But if you're thinking of this for the future, get Hap Wilson's Manitoba book for ww details. For other stuff, there's lots of info available on the web. PM me, and I'll answer whatever questions I can.

Nice dramatic sky in the photo today; looks like ominous weather approaching.

I got an idea, tell ya what:

The next time I forget - the first one to post one of your own pics gets the day! It would serve as a timely reminder for me to restock while the itch gets scratched.

Here's a POD for today; Lower Pauness, Little Indian Sioux.

Gorgeous photo, today, Mike. Is it in BW or Quetico (if Quetico, which lake?).

Anyway thanks for sharing.

Yo Starwatcher,

thanks for the compliment on the Jan. 26 POD. From past year's September trip. Yeah, we got a little rain. Nothing terrible, but just enough to remind us that we weren't home snug in our beds.

Hey KYpaddler, great shot today!  For me, it captures the essence of canoe country.  Wish I was there.

Prouboy,

thank you, also, for this. Yes, some photos I like to look at over and over again. This is one of them.

Neat photo today kypaddler!  Are you canoeing or mountain climbing?  Where?

Starwatcher, Tom T, MuleLars and prouboy,

Thank you for the comments on the Jan. 14 POD. That shot was taken on one of the glorious cliffs along Agnes, looking down at two friends who were slaying smallmouth. It's one of my favorite little spots in the park. There's a tree to provide shade, should I want it, and sit against. I like to hike (OK, climb) up there, then read, drink some bourbon and just breathe deep.

Given the weight of impending deadlines (the past two months have been horrendous, as you could tell from the delay in my acknowledging your gracious and generous compliments) I wish I were back there now.

KY, I feel for you, seriously.  So, if you can't climb a cliff along Agnes, how about climbing up to the roof of your house (ladder is okay), then sit, breathe deep, and take a sip or two or bourbon??  Not too many sips, as that ladder could be dangerous...
