I finally convinced by my 65 year old dad to join me on a trip to the Q.  We're heading in mid September for a short 3 day trip to "get his feet wet". The plan is a tow up Moose to Prairie Portage and a paddle across Birch to eastern Carp with a possible day trip to Emerald.

Prior posts and the PCD indicate decent sites in the NE corner of Carp.  If anyone has any campsite recommendations on Birch or Carp,  fall fishing experience on Carp, Emerald or Birch, or any other helpful general info, it would be very much appreciated!!  PM if you'd prefer.  Thanks in advance!!

You've picked a really nice area to introduce your dad to. We stayed on Emerald 3 years ago in September at a site on a point on the southeast side of the lake, immediately south of where the portage from That Man Lake comes in from the north (site IP5 on the database). It is a nice, flat, grassy site with a view of Emerald towards the east (looking at the ridge to the south from the campsite one can still see the effect of the great blowdown of 1999 at the very top of the ridge but it doesn't detract from the site).

Emerald is nice, secluded, quiet and a pretty lake to explore.

Have a great trip!

I just returned from Q and our loop finished up coming through Plough, Emerald, Knife and Carp. Not usually one to take the first site from a portage it was getting late so we took the site right out from the last Knife-Carp portage. Really nice site set way back from any traffic and easy access to moving water, didn't get a chance to fish it but looked good. Good day trip to Isle of Pines and the ribbon rock. Saw many nice sites on Carp and most were not claimed. Emerald is beautiful with some awesome cedar groves.
