It seems that every year about this time we have more guests and lurkers visiting. We want you to know that you are welcome here. We all get along and play well together for the most part. The knowledge base here is the best anywhere for Quetico, BWCAW, and WCPP. Joining is easy. Become an inukshuk and you will see and learn more. I think of this site as an online magazine, with the advantage of last minute news and updates. You will not be disappointed. Take the plunge, share your questions, and a bit of what you have learned in canoe country. You will likely make some new friends and may even find a paddle buddy or three.   Wink

I guess I could adapt as I like to paddle a solo canoe and the wife loves her Kayak.  but when we trip it is in a SR Q 18.5.

Nick Offerman (AKA Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec) chalks one up for the humble canoe in his new book. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

It's his biography and he champions people to "Go outside and get into nature" and also to build something with your hands such as a woodstrip canoe and paddles as he has done.  Really a good and funny book too.

Old Salt, you look like my kinda guy.  Thanks for making us newbies feel welcome.  I signed on as an Inukshuk because I could see there was a lot to learn, and it has already been worth my while.  I'll be taking my first BWCA trip with my 32-year-old son along the Knife Lake Route (Seagull-Knife-Saganaga) in early June (provided the ice actually IS out by then!) and hope to learn a little more about what to expect from paddlers/anglers who have been there at about that time of the year.  My son is a professional photographer and I'm a fishery biologist, so we plan to contribute to the forum once we know what we're talking about  Smiley

I took a trip early June last year.  We went in at Prairie Portage, up Kahshahpiwi, the poets, McDougall, Conmee, Delahey, Brent, Darky, Argo, Crooked, etc. and back out at Prairie Portage.  That early in the year some of the portage trails were a bit rough (quite a few uncleared blowdowns), but the campsites were not trashed, firewood was plentiful, and the fish were biting.  Bugs weren't too bad, but take a headnet and good bug dope, and I am a big fan of permethrin for clothing.  I wish I was going again this year!
