I declare it is spring!

Went for a 3 hour paddle today.  No ice on the river but some snow on the shores.  Lots of migratory birds.  There is a bird that looks like a loon but has a different shaped head.  They would not let me get close enough to get a good look. I paddled up along side of a coyote that must have been sleeping in a sunny spot.  He jumped up and took off from about 30 feet from me. Never fear summer will arrive soon.

Magic,

If that bird "waddled" away, it might just be a Minnesota penguin on spring break trying to escape our cold.

Won't be much paddling going on around these parts for many weeks.  Enjoy your spring down south, y'all!

It's suppose to reach the high 50's today here but overnight it had to leave a light coating of snow. It's already burned off. I'm planning a 2nd paddle for today. But I'm thinking another slow warming spring, much like last year's.

Went for another paddle today.  Got a couple of pictures of sandhill cranes.  It was good to get out.  Weather is going to turn cold for a few days so I got my 2 days in.

In the bulls'eye for snow totals this recent storm...8+ inches wet, heavy snow.  Now clearing and getting colder at 7:00 pm. Tongue

It may be spring somewhere....just not here in NE MN.....it will be a couple of weeks, say 12 or so, before anyone goes paddling in canoe country's south side....north of the border I would give it 15. Silver Lake in Virginia MN is beginning to open back up......problem is though it "normally" never freezes (due to the PUC plant) if that gives you a hint as to how cold it has been. Ice fishing for opener, open shorelines by Memorial Day, 55 degree water temps by mid-June.......I hope I am wrong
