Anyone have any experience with inflatable kayaks? Are there specific models or brands that you recommend? My in-laws are looking for a tandem inflatable. Not for wilderness trips, just local recreational outings and to play with in Lake Michigan from the beach.

I've never really looked into the inflatable boats, but I've been surprised by how expensive they are.

About 15 years ago I ordered a 10 foot inflatable kayak and paid about $200 for it. Worst paddling experience ever except for the 2 man "toy" raft I had as a kid and I would put this kayak in that class as well. Luckily I was able to return it. I'm not certain why it was so unruly in the water but it was very unpleasant despite appearing well made and stable in the water. I think maybe the spine/keel was not rigid enough and by sitting in the middle a great deal of rocker was created. Throw in a little wind and hang on for a wild ride with little control.
