I was in cabelas the other day wandering about and a guy with that energy of youth snatched a lure off the rack. Something prompted me to inquire "hey, what do ya got there"..........."top toad" he replied, I have been catching em"

Fair enough, that was all the prompting I needed. The top toads were packed for Georgian bay and all but forgotten. I had a fake frog already and it had accounted for a few decent fish but then I remembered the toads. "Might as well give them a shot" I muttered aloud as I went through options. The rest, as they say, is history. Those fish liked them some top toad now and about every third cast I was watching them literally blow up on the lure. I was laughing so hard my stomach was starting to get knotted up as I was enthusiastically stating "come on baby, get you some top toad"..........you knew the hit was coming.

Anyways, the lure is a hoot. I suggest fishing it on heavy braid if your fishing for largemouths in the slop. I had 80 braid and liked the ability to horse the fish. Completely weed less with exceptional hooking abilities which is a bit unusual for these type of lures. I missed vey few fish as long as I let them eat (count to 2 after the explosion). If you pick some up be sure to get the pre rigged version which comes with a double hook. Very effective. Replacement bodies are also available........the hook uses a screw lock to secure the body of the plastic and it might not be a bad idea to get some replacement screw locks as mine eventually fell off from abuse. Cheap enough.

I am eager to try the lure in open water for shallow smallies. I think it would be an exceptional presentation and would likely provoke the big girls to eat since it has that "I'm getting away, you can't catch me" attitude.

As per fishing the lure it couldn't be easier. Throw it out and reel it in. The kicking legs do the rest. I am so stoked on this type of lure I have picked up some magnum uncle Josh toads which measure some 10 inches and come with a whopping 12/0 hook. Big pike or musky in the weeds might like them some toad too. I can't help but wonder what a bathtub looks like when it falls in the water......hopefully I won't get wet.
