We've discussed this item before:

Now it appears there is going to be a product for people who want to have a mixed drink and not haul heavy booze containers with them.

Has anyone actually tried the beer?  If so, I'd like to hear about it.

Just saw this.

Looks like the days of hauling liquor for generic MIXED drinks might be a thing of the past?

What's a 'mixed drink'?  The only thing I mix my liquor with is my liver.

I did not see any single malt or Irish listed. I gave up lemon drops 45 years ago.

My camping single malt is frequently Aberlour a'Bunadh.  At 120 proof, you don't need a lot (it even benefits from a drop or two of water).

I take lemon drops every trip, but its for use on portages.  I'll pop one in my mouth at the beginning of a longer portage to keep my mouth from getting dry (and give be a little sugar boost).

Man you guys want EVERYTHING first class. Wink Grin
I figure this item will be popular with the people like me who wouldn't know good booze from bad, because we don't drink hard liquor on a regular basis. For the true connoisseur of fine spirits, this isn't it. Tongue

Doc, Second that The Abelour A'Bundah or nearly cask strength is a fine sipping single malt.  A drop or two of clear glacial lake H2O opens it up so fine.  You only have to make sure it gets up there in an unbreakable container like saline bottles that I use for surgery.  Airtight seal with a silicone gasket, pour it in just before you hit the trail and your beverage is very safe. Oh this is an easy one. Pick any Kentucky bourbon (95 percent of bourbon is made in the Bluegrass State -- the rest is counterfeit), and go with a small-batch or single-barrel flavor.

Done.

I'm still searching.

in between a few bottles of the Tennessee sour mash

Town Branch
Eagle Rare
Buffalo Trace
Makers Mark
Jim Beam

What's next? I'm thinking Wild Turkey or Bulleit

Rowan Creek is one of my favorites.
Woodford Reserve
Eagle Rare
Knob Creek
Four Roses
Blanton's
Elijah Craig
Pappy Van Winkle (if you can get it or track down some of that massive theft)
Russel's Reserve
Willett
Noah's Mill
Angel's Envy

Stay away from that Tennessee sour mash stuff. Or use it to clean soot off your Quetico dishware.

hahaha.

but yes, you could do basic stuff: Jim Beam, Maker's Mark, Evan Williams, Wild Turkey and their assorted recipes (Maker's 46 is particularly good, or Jim Beam Black)

(I spelled Russell's Reserve wrong, btw)

Don't let the plastic bottle fool you.  Ancient Age gets a 95 from Malt Advocate and I would concur.  It's been my everyday bourbon for a while now.  But, some places deserve better.

Ledaig
Ardbeg
Brora (good luck)

Is my first post really going to be about bourbon?  I guess so.  I took along a flask with my latest favorite, 4 roses small batch, on my first and only bw trip this year.  I am also a fan of the previously mentioned Makers 46, and Blantons.  In June,  I took a week trip on the Bourbon Trail, from my tent basecamp!  Grin

Woodford Reserve fan here.  I have moved over to to Bourbon after being a scotch aficionado for a long time.

Another Kentucky bourbon fan here.  Learned to love the taste when we lived at Ft. Knox for 3 1/2 years in the 70's.  My current favorites are Woodford Reserve and Elijah Craig, but I have no problem with Makers Mark, Russells Reserve, Eagle Rare, Bulleit, and probably several others.  Angel's Envy is nice, but in my opinion, not worth paying the extra.  Most of the time now I just buy Elijah Craig and am very happy with it, especially since I am not a regular drinker anyway.  Spartan1 is happy with any cheap whiskey; I tend to want something a bit on the smooth side.  We only mix with ice and a little (or sometimes quite a bit of) water.

We had a great time on the Maker's tour; still have our custom-dipped bottle!  Dipped one for Ho Ho and David, too.   Smiley
