	ST, SPOT literature says they will pin-point your location within 20 feet. From experience I know on maps that SPOT does indicate closely where I am when I send a message. Testimonials from actual users of SPOT who needed to be assisted from a 911 message say the response was relatively fast.

When SPOT testimonials say the 911 response was relatively fast, that leaves a lot of room for things to go wrong. You send 911 message, the find your GPS location and then what? In the BWCA/Q could they tell a float plane could land or do you need a chopper or water extraction? Does the 911 message tell them the nature of your emergency? Big difference from breaking a leg to having a heart attack/stroke where time means life or death. More I read about the SPOT type devices, the more I think they're more for the loved ones peace of mind than the person they're worried about? Since you have to be able/conscious to send message with any of these items, I'm thinking IF I ever want something, I'd go the rental SAT phone route.

	Took a SPOT on my 2013 solo as at the request/demand of my wife. Found out that only a third of what I thought were successful "all OK" transmissions ever went through. Told folks on my list to watch for any "send help" messages but warned that if no all OK messages were received it did not mean there was a problem. Could be operator error, device issues... I'm guessing the SPOT went into the glovebox after the pre-border crossing transmission and wasn't thought of during the canoe loading/departure excitement. Looking forward to the trip report.
