	Time for a new POD comment thread. The last thread is here: (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) As always, anyone can submit their own photos for display as a POD by clicking (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links). I have a bunch of ST's shots in the can. Seems we were both hoping to see some different perspectives from other paddlers...

	We have almost 1000 registered members here and while that's far more than the number of QJ people who actively participate or regularly view the site, it should still be enough for a steady supply of POD's which seem to be a favorite feature for everyone. IF everyone just sent in 5-10 pics, then db would have more than enough and you wouldn't get long series of pics by any one person. I'm pretty sure most everyone takes some pictures and I'm a little puzzled why more people don't submit them? We have some people here who submit professional quality POD's and maybe that makes hacks like me, feel our pics are not good enough? I love the POD's and just the fact there from a place we all love and someone made the effort is all anyone should care about IMHO. Some people might have technical issues submitting pics, and give up from frustration. I'm tech neanderthal, but we have people here who can tell you how or maybe even do it for you if necessary. I posted in the HELP forum about how you can upload your pics to PhotoBucket and set it so they're re-sized for POD submissions but remain the same in your personal file. I'd like to see EVERYONE that takes pics submit them and share their "eye" for the Q/BWCA.

	Agree. One of my favorite features also. Some of the photos are amazing. I'll be sending in a new batch of my recent pics soon. I don't think there is anything really remarkable in what I'll be sending, but I'm often surprised that others find what I consider a plain or boring photo, to be very interesting or beautiful.

	I see a trend the last few days and it is making me hungry. Just curious on the type of fish. Wondering if you marinated it and/or if it is a lake trout. Color doesn't look like walleye or pike. Nice kitchen set up!

We had 3 different spices we used on 3 batches of LT. A standard Lemon Pepper, some Italian seasoning and some Greek fish spice Westwood’s wife sent along. They were all tasty, but we both agreed the Greek spice was the best. I don’t know what it’s called or IF it’s readily available? Westwood would know more about it.

	I met her once, too... though, at the time, she appeared a bit fidgety and less-than-thrilled about being in a canoe out on Kasakokwog Lake. Tried to train my dog - a GREAT swimmer - to sit patiently in my canoe. She kept jumping overboard, which usually flipped my Prism and me with it! I gave up. Kudos to Ranger; maybe he'll consider starting a school for training would-be Voyageur dogs. Jimbo

	Well, the real secret is that Penny hates to swim. So she has two choices in the canoe, and she elects to stay dry. The first time I put her in a canoe at home I had to wrestle her into the boat. Now she jumps right in. I've found that a blue closed cell foam pad helps too. Penny will be on her fifth Quetico trip this September!

	I notice Ranger is a fan of those inexpensive orange fish grippers. There are better grippers out there, but for the price it's hard to beat these IF you use a gripper. They float so you can't lose them overboard and hard to miss that orange around camp. One of those cheap outdoor items that delivers way more than you'd expect at the price.

I do enjoy the indestructible Boga's we use on the big lakes at home, but for canoe trips these hit a sweet spot between function / price / and float that's hard to beat. I find it pretty easy to slip them on my wrist as a fish comes in, and then lip them right in the water. I've landed all of the grand slam species with these multiple times. I still lip bass the old school way, but if the hooks are in the way I'll use these just to avoid hook/hand issues in the Park.

	Have one as well based on recommendations here. Come in handy specifically for critters like those in the picture. Don't even need to bring them into the canoe.

	It's on the portage between Ted lk and Fishhook (Earl lk). I was surprised to see that much flow because where it empties into Ted, it doesn’t look like much of a run-off at all. Once on the portage you see there is a significant drop in elevation between Fishhook and Ted. The portage is short and deceptive elevation wise

	Not a cooler, it's my food pack (a little six pack cooler goes inside). Here's some more details that kinda show how the shoulder straps and hip belt are attached. It's my favorite pack to carry by far. I love that pack. It keeps everything organized and easily accessible plus it makes a great seat or table. (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) There is still a six inch section of garden hose to use as a handle of a suitcase. The shoulder straps came a year later and the hip belt the year after. I don't look BW/Q cool carrying it but I can live with that.

	Thanks and I will but I'll wait because even my wife, who after a few trips had enough and thinks the kid got a raw deal and is offering options. In hindsight, I wish I was in the last two PODs. But I know a sucker hole when I see one,

	Yes - 3Z and one of the small stone triplets, Larry II rests on that site. I liked this site the best out of the four I stayed on that week. Easy landing, Flintsone-esque furnishings and peaceful surroundings. Found an inconspicuously marked honey-hole nearby loaded with walleyes.

	I stayed at 3Z on my fall 2014 base-camp trip for 2 nights. It's everything you said it was. Larry 2 wasn't there and I didn't find that honey hole, but it was a great place to stay. (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links)

	Those fire roasted spuds you see in the right side of fire pit were outstanding with my breakfast eggs the two mornings I was there. Only thing better would of been some of those honey hole waldo fillets to go along with it.

One, this year we didn't go very far into the park, for various reasons. It's kind of embarrassing. And two, every time I set out to write a trip report, it morphs into a long and meandering piece of narrative literature, rather than a compilation of helpful knowledge. I had big plans after the 2010 trip, for example, and just the trip across Bayley Bay turned into a thousand words quoting Rick Bass and others. Hahahaha. -- kypaddler

	I appreciate ANY effort in regards to trip reports/PODS/pictures. Besides, what may seem like a meandering report to you might just be very entertaining to others and hold some info newbies or even seasoned paddlers either don't know or just never thought about the way others do. I learn new things here all the time. Don't be so hard on yourself, if everyone were their own worse critic this site would be a wasteland.

	Fellas fellas ... is this all in good fun, or is there an edge to this banter? As an outsider looking in, I can't tell. (Makes me feel like a guy being sent up to do hard time, and walking in the door and wondering which "gang" to align myself with ...) But back to the topic at hand (trip reports), I'm curious as to what readers/fellow travelers like to see. The aforementioned "useful knowledge," which I wrote to mean things like fishing ... weather ... campsite availability and "health" ... landing conditions? Or musings on wildlife ... wilderness ... group cohesion ... camp chores etc.? That was my original point. My writing tends toward the latter. Is that boring to others? - kypaddler

	I think it's all in good fun. As for trip reports, my opinion is that there is no form to follow. Trip reports are voluntary, and many choose not to write them, and those who do have many different styles of writing. Some include pictures and some don't. Some are detail oriented and some not. It's up to you whether you want to share or not. My encouragement is to try it. I would enjoy reading it.

	Nice pic of your wood strip Kayak Jimmar How long does it take to load your gear in without any hatches fore/aft like you see on those tripping ocean kayaks? I can see the benefit for a base-camp type trip, but I wouldn't want to do a long trip unless I could figure way to load/unload quickly.

	Thanks ST. I spend extra time at the beginning and end of portages unpacking and re-packing but I make up lost time on the water because the kayak will move out pretty fast. The answer for loading/unlading more quickly is to bring less stuff. It has a large hatch behind the cockpit where I loose pack most of the smaller or re-shapeable items. I also pack a mil style double strap duffle to repack and carry on portages. Up front I push in my tent, sleeping bag and pad, all tied to a piece of para-cord so I can pull them out easily. In the cockpit , behind the seat, I have a water bottle, spray skirt and a few miscellaneous small items I forgot to pack in the hatch. The design of this kayak is for larger paddlers, I’m smallish, and I increased the height slightly at the front of the cockpit when I built it. It will carry a surprising amount of gear. But because I always seem to bring too much, I end up strapping some gear on top along with a deck back for fishing tackle and such. The fishing rods get held on by a cord on the deck. I look like Jed Clampett on water, just ask PJ, I met him in June in Quetico Lake. It’s a bit difficult to fish from so I don’t intentionally try to catch those larger NP when I’m using it. It’s pretty stable, and takes the wind and waves better than a canoe. Portaging the boat can sometimes also be tough. I used to bring a clamp on portage yoke but on the last trip I found it wasn’t too much more difficult to just carry it over head with the cockpit combing resting on my shoulders. Also, I’m not a limber as I once was, so entry and exit is sometime awkward. I think my next solo will be with a canoe.

	Thanks Jimmar, I figured it was possible, I just was curious if the work to do it would be worth the effort to have the benefits of a kayak? I know a few of the guys here have and use solo canoe covers. Offhand I think Jimbo is one of them. From what I can gather reading about them being used, they work real well, but I seem to remember reading that they can be a pain on portages to secure while portaging or something like that .

	Yes, ST, I DO have a CCS splash skirt/cover that buttons down around my Wenonah Prism. You're also right in that I have found it a bit of PIA re: portaging. I'm sure there's a good way to manage this. I simply haven't used the spray skirt often enough to come up with a "system." The last several times I've had occasion to use my solo canoe, it has been mid-summer... and I really didn't care much if it rained. Prime time use for those covers would be on the shoulders of the season, in my opinion. The skirts can also be trouble to button down if they have been in dry storage over the winter. The trick is to soak them good before you start your trip. The fabric loosens up fine and then, after you button it up that first time, you are good to go for the rest of the trip. I sure like the looks of Jimmar's vessel in today's POD! Jimbo

	Thanks, and yes and yes. It is only one coating of epoxy with graphite powder and some colloidal silica mixed in. I didn't have this coating on my first solo trip and the scratches were very apparent. I added the coating and now it still gets scratched but they don't look as ugly.

	I'll always remember s similar little tortured tree. It was old and twisted, growing out of a crack in bare rock on the shoreline but about that same size. I'd always photograph it. I may even have a shot of the inch and a half stump in my files somewhere. I refuse to look.

	Anna is our granddaughter, and she was really thrilled with our encounter with the two loons on Poplar Lake. She was in the middle seat, back there just snapping and snapping away, holding her very nice little camera with one hand. I was also photographing (some of my shots will come later) and when we saw the results, I was really quite proud to see that she got some that were much better than mine. And different. It was a magical afternoon on the water for us. Anna loves the canoe country almost as much as we do, and the loons seemed to want to give us a "show to remember."

	These were going under the canoe, too. And getting so close to us that I literally could not focus with my 70-200 zoom lens. One would come up close and the other one would dive. They entertained us up by the shore for a few minutes, then they headed out to the more open area of the lake. We figured, "OK, the show is done." But they still stayed fairly close, so we followed, and they let us get close again, posed in all sorts of ways (that is when Anna got several photos of the preening), and didn't seem at all threatened by us. All in all, I think we were photographing them for more than fifteen minutes. It was fabulous! I have lots of loon photos, and some are ones I like better than the ones I took that day. But that day was by far my favorite "loon day" because we were sharing it with Anna. At the age of 12, she was just at the right maturity to really appreciate the majesty of such a huge bird and to have it almost close enough to touch. (No, we didn't try to touch them; we would never do that.) I sent db a representative sampling of our photos. We got more than a dozen (each) that we liked. We made a little book on Snapfish for our family and friends for Christmas gifts this year. Just a lovely day out for a lazy paddle on the lake. We paddled up to the end of the lake afterwards for our picnic lunch, and we did see them on our way back to the cabin later on, but we didn't disturb them again. Some things you don't even try to replicate.

	The loon is clearly the shaman of its flock...and, perhaps, its entire species! Each time I return to this pic, the bird draws me deeper and deeper into its eerie hypnotic gaze. He stares across cyberspace as if to draw me out and devour and digest my identity. I dare not return to this pic ever again. I fear the power of this unique creature and do not relish a Fate that would leave me as little more than than a mess of loon crap adorning the crest of lonely rock shelf on some remote and nameless northern lake. I think it is just a nice photo of a loon--hadn't imagined it had any mystical powers! Anna was here for Thanksgiving and took a shower in our master bath. She said she felt like the eyes of the loon were following her wherever she moved. Maybe she knew something that I don't.

Between everyone having good little cameras on their Smart Phones and the those nice little point and shoot ones available, even those disposable ones in a pinch, I would think that anyone who took a trip or two would have pics to share? The "quality" bar isn't THAT high as evident by the majority of my submissions. BUT any trip pic is BETTER than NO POD at all.

	I've often thought about doing a trip there. I understand the catch and release but I would miss having a chance for a fish dinner? How about the Pan Fish? Your pics were great, and many of those shots would be indistinguishable from BWC/Q pics.

	Only the smallies are catch and release. One of the lakes, Whitefish lake has walleye and pike, and another, Clark, has Lake Trout that can be kept. The size limits are such that I've never caught a keeper size. They were always just under. Some of the lakes do have pan fish, I've caught rock bass in Loon Lake, but on trips to Sylvania I always just plan to eat SPAM.

	Nearly had my camp blow down on me & my young son during a horrible 3 day wind storm there several years back. That site was fairly exposed. Since then I've opted for the better-protected sites to the west whenever I'm in that area (the 5 Star at 2Z and also #593, as designated on PaddlePlanner.com). That is one of my favorite areas in the park, for sure; chock full of memories that these pictures bring back. Jimbo

However, "2Z" IS what I intended, across the lake on the south side. 2Z can handle large groups, has a great fireplace, and is well-protected with mature forest growth. #583 is an island site, also offering good protection (since it sits so close the north shoreline) from W/NW winds. It has man-made "furniture", if you go for that sort of thing. My oldest son & I were serenaded there by what must have been a "flock" of whippoorwills in late May of 2014. Their song was incessant through the night. We've passed by 3Z many times and it looks pretty nice but I've never camped there. That would have been about "ground zero" for the whippoorwill infestation that year, as the song would move from our island over towards that nearby site throughout the night. *********** The only thing today's POD is missing are the summertime "butterflies" (moths?) that seem to congregate on a pair of shoes when you set them out to dry. I wonder if it is the salt from sweat that attracts them? Yellowbird, you must have had an easy day that day. No sweat; no butterflies! Jimbo

	Jimbo, I most likely feigned a toe injury that day and averted all the work on to Kingfisher. I call this my "gemba" photo. Gemba is a Japanese term for "boots on the ground". It is a supervisory directive to go to the objective and get first person detail. Since it's office politics to "one up" the co-worker (as well as mock any corporate decree), the boots on the ground photo gets sent back the moment I regain connection. The reply is always "Good Gemba". -YB

	Nice video and good job landing the pike. I could feel my shoulder torque when it shook as it was lifted out of the water. Grabbing a lively pike near the treble hooks is always a scary proposition for me ever since I got a hook embedded in my thumb landing a fish just like this. Still seems the best way, but I was holding my breath watching this.

	Nice Walleye!! I believe I watched the video on your youtube channel for this one. "Soho Walleye"??? I like how calm you guys are. When I fish with my son and catch a fish like that, we really get excited. My personal best was a 28" caught from the shore on Quetico Lake back in 2007. I've fallen about an inch short several times, never been able to match it since. Hope to fish in Cirrus again this June. Probably won't make it to Soho.

It was suspended in 40' of water in that main basin. A great surprise and I'd add, a gift as well. My previous record was a 29.5" fish taken also fishing with KF on the lower Menominee River in NE Wisconsin. That fish is on my living room wall. This Soho walleye was a heavier fish. I guess by day 6, the excitement gave way to contentment. On Soho, we began spending the mid-day hours shooting the breeze in camp and laying on the "beach". By contrast on our past trips together, no time was ever allocated to hanging out in camp. The great action continued on Kasakakwog (all 4 species), spending a couple days there just down from the Cirrus portage, before heading back to Cirrus via Quetico Lake. We both took a number of videos of the fishing. The video brings back a trip in ways the pictures cannot. We ran the cameras only occasionally when a fish was on. It was fortuitous that we happen to be filming when those 2 trophy fish were taken. I'm working on uploading some of which I'll post a link to before the POD's run out. Very memorable trip. Loved the area.

	ST, that site is on Soho, the north side mid lake. It is evening hours so view is to the NE. Terraced site, backed by pine forest and nice panorama from NE to SE, with a couple of tent pads up behind the kitchen. Landing was poor, sloping boulder field (no garage whatsoever). We claimed the nicer beach site on the opposite shore. Up coming POD's to show it.

	I've been enjoying the latest POD. I caught a walleye in Cirrus last year that was bluish in coloring. I read that blue walleye were common in the Eastern Great Lakes are early in the 1900's but became almost extinct due to over fishing. They were blue/gray coloring. I caught one near White River Ontario a few years back that was more blue that this one but don't have a photo. I wonder how many others have been caught in BW/Q?

	i once replaced a destroyed bucktail with dog fur. it turned out pretty nice. 3 years ago was in the q with a rather inexperienced father & son team. after a long day in which i struggled to catch fish consistently, over dinner they told of their day with non-stop action of mostly sm & pike. i asked what they were throwing and the guy said 'these things'. they were #3 mepps tied to the end of some massively kinked cheap leaders.

	Reminds me of my first BW trip, was trying to impress my wife by putting some fish in the pan, and not doing a very good job. While camped on Knife Lake, I took a walk along a ledge, looking down into the clear water. There were bass schooling near the bottom, maybe 15' down. Went back, got my rod and tied on a #3 Mepps R/W Aglia blade, tipped with a half crawler. All it took was to yo-yo that bait inches in front of their noses. Had all the fish I needed. -YB

	I caught my first 40" Northern on a large home made spinner with a couple hunks of red ribbon tied on around the treble. We were fishing from a 12 ft. row boat in flood water near a two track road in eastern Ontario. ...but i guess I'm not sticking strictly to the POD topic.

	Today's POD made me laugh Last year while on a walk at the local county park that weaves around a small lake that has fishing docks, I watched a guy kneeling on the dock bending over like he was trying to land a fish? I stopped to see what he caught and realized he didn't have a fishing pole Turns out he had one of those LifeStraws he had gotten for X-mas. Instead of laying flat on dock he leaned so far over he ended up going in head first. Luckily the water was deep enough the only thing he hurt was his pride. Being early spring the water was ice cold and as he stood cussing up a storm he looked up to see me LMFAO and that broke him up.

	That's a dragonfly emerging from nymph stage. When we woke that morning we noticed some nymphs on the sides of the tents and on tree trunks etc. They all seemed to emerge that particular day at the island base camp. A fair number of mosquitoes were out the day before and that morning. By lunch time the same day there were dragonflies swarming the island and you couldn't find a mosquito to save your life the rest of the day. Even venturing into the trees around camp.

Many professionals have elected to unload their full frame equipment and go with Fuji. Fuji lenses are outstanding with a very strong lineup of primes and zooms. The system isn't cheap but still far less than full frame options. I bought mine used with two lenses for nearly half the retail price and all the equipment still had 10 months of warrantee left. There are also plenty of great tutorials available on how to use the Xt1. If you're into photography, I can't say enough about this camera. 	Mr. Jug, You are correct. Well played. The point on Batch just after you come out of the narrows leading from Little Batch Bay. The rock wall is Southeast. Did you recall this from memory or did you go back to the companion POD on April 4th? That one is taken from the same spot but facing Northeast and the portage to Nym. If you look above the rock wall there is some color showing. It was the 3rd week of September about 10 years ago. This was the last night of an 8 day trip where it poured cold rain every day and nearly all day for the first 7 days. I have one more photo of this site where my very dejected Nephew is munching on a salami sandwich. Good times. MossBack

	5/30/2016 pic looks to be the island site I stayed at in 2013. It's in the southern section just off the west shore. Great view of the lake. We heard large game (probably moose) in the nearby woods and saw a family of 3 beavers swim under us as we sat on a nice sitting ledge about 15 ft. off the water. Nice little island site.

He's biased towards big fish pics and he ran as a full page pick with my story "Fishing With Charlie." Heck, the kid's smile alone sold that pic... which goes to show you that even a blind squirrel can find a nut every once in awhile! I truly admire the more gifted photographers - like yourself - that we have here on QJ. It takes a trained eye, real artistic flair/intuition, and a knack for placing yourself in the position of most potential to be able to routinely produce high quality pics... none of which I have. By my reckoning, one good pic is equivalent to well more than 1000 of my words! Jimbo

I'll share your comments with Mrs. Jimbo. She has been kidding me a bit over "credit" assigned to my batch of POD’s. Mrs. Jimbo’s string of pics have about ended. While I sort of agree with ST that (most of the time) any pic is usually better than no pic, I observe that he hasn’t seen MY stuff yet! Re: Stu, well, yeah, he certainly has strong opinions and he seldom hesitates to voice them. Long ago his comments would stick in my craw a bit, too. I didn’t care what he said about my pics; I knew he was more right than wrong there. Rather, early on, he would occasionally make a strong remark or take strong action regarding my stories. The instance that comes to mind is when once he deleted the first and last full pages of my story entitled, “Inukshuks & A Stroll Through the Park.” I was one very unhappy camper, as I recall. Thanks to db, however, you can find that story (as with all my others) – in its original entirety – in the QJ “Stories” section and judge for yourself (see: (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) ). All these years later, I sort of "get it" why he decided to leave those pages out. Nevertheless, if it had been MY magazine, I would have done otherwise. I remember one time I called the magazine to order some camping equipment. As it turned out, I reached one of his staff members and identified myself. She immediately told me about the small committee meeting the day before in which they evaluated a submission of mine. She said everybody had "raved about it" but Stu had some second thoughts and wanted to think it over some. Eventually he killed it. Ultimately, he's no more right or wrong than either you, me, or his committee members. He just owns the danged magazine and, therefore, holds the power. He can be "surgical" with stories and, minus an amputation here & there, what appears/remains is, in truth, "mine" (although one time, in fact, he did "insert" a line of advertisement for one of his products!). With pics it is a different matter, I guess. It's either salvation or damnation with nothing much in between. Very frustrating for photographers, I'm sure. Nevertheless, if ever I started a magazine, I’d like to think I would try to be a bit more supportive of writers & photographers, particularly because most are subscribers, too! Maybe he thought he was saving time and serving the best interests of his magazine by “cutting to the chase” (ie. HIS ultimate decision) quickly with us and others. As we know, that approach comes with a cost. He reaps what he sews, right? I think it’s fair to say he could have managed budding relationships a little better. I would have made HR 101 “mandatory” for him if he had been in any of MY companies! The harshness of Stu’s commentaries eased up considerably after the first couple years of working with him. I’d like to believe that was because: 1) we built up a relationship, and/or 2) he received favorable reviews on my stuff. Alternatively, I suppose it could be he simply mellowed with age. I don't know which. Ultimately, I respect what Stu has done with his magazine. I can even respect his damned strong opinions, even though I don't agree with them about 40% of the time. I've found him to be a pretty good guy when he’s not being a butt head. Anyway, you have so many outstanding pics on QJ that you need no one to come to your defense. I seriously thought you were a professional photographer (and maybe you are). I am merely relating to some of your feelings. I DO know about how such stuff/noise can stick in one's craw. 	Well Spartan 2, I figure we've known each other long enough for me to offer you my honest criticism. There is something about your images that is consistently substandard with regards to a quality publication such as the BWJ. Keep in mind I'm only trying to help you improve your photography for this particular publication. When you become proficient in properly lighting an 8.5 x 11 vertical composition of someone holding a large fish, you'll have much better luck. I honestly haven't seen a BWJ for 5 years or so but that was the formula years ago.

	Thanks, db. I sort of figured that out, though. And in answer to Jimbo's interesting post, I am not a professional. I would have liked to be, and even did give it some consideration, but I was born just a bit too late. I am not motivated to do all of the technological manipulation and online marketing that is necessary now to get into that field. The new people in the field have gone in directions that I just either do not care to explore, or else I do not have the wherewithal to keep upgrading and following the new techological trends. And, as you know, nature photography requires a body that can take a great deal of punishment. I no longer have that at my disposal. I suppose I was, for a time, a semi-professional, or a "compensated amateur." I have sold photographs. Mainly at a few craft shows or silent auctions, though. Nothing major. Nothing that ever reached the dreams I once had. That's OK. Life has been good in other ways.

	I always figured Stu beat his clients to death fishing till he had the numbers he needed to advertise his guiding service. He needs those trophy pictures and numbers. God help them if they wanted to relax in camp any. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and he's just expressing his, but it didn't sound like fun IMO. That said I'll bet he could handle it if I was a client and was firm and direct about my opinions too.

	Chaga, Nope. Nor did it result from powerful strokes emanating from the stern of my canoe. Rather, it came as a result of the idiot towboat driver who was ferrying us from Zup's over to Bottle Portage by way of the LLC moose picto. Believe it or not, a cow and her two calves were swimming just below that picto... and the numb skull piloting the boat decided to buzz them and give chase. We were NOT happy about this development. One of the calves got separated and driven to a far shoreline. The boat driver, who happened to be of First Nation heritage, just chuckled over the whole thing. Eventually he drove us over to our destination. While I am fairly confident the bleating of the separated calf eventually led to a family reunion, one can never be certain of it. That was back A large contingent of QJ'ers witnessed the debacle (Yellowbird, Magic Paddler, Quentin, Old Salt, Kingfisher, QueticoPassage & others). I think the boat's pilot was lucky we didn't mutiny, toss HIM overboard, and then buzz around HIM for awhile. Come to think of it, the return towboat ride was also somewhat eventful. Our "pick-up" point was at Black Robe Portage on LLC. The Zup's towboat (different pilot) broke down. If not for the mechanical skills of Kingfisher, we would have been waiting a long time for a 2nd boat to show up. Anyway, back to the pic, I doubt I would have had the courage to get that close to a moose in my canoe. On the other hand, as I recall, several of us had to restrain Old Salt from jumping overboard. He was determined to re-live "the old days" when he would hitch rides by holding onto the backs of unsuspecting large park fauna such as moose and bear. Fortunately, we were able to snatch the lasso he had quickly fashioned away out of his hands and use it to bind him to the vessel until we reached Bottle. By that time his mania had sufficiently subsided and we could safely release him. That's how I remember it, anyway.... That moose buzzing episode rankled within us for quite some time. We DID get a decent pic or two from the incident, though I'm not so proud of the circumstances under which those pics were obtained. Jimbo

	I was wondering how you got so close to a full grown moose. I've encountered moose/bear swimming ahead of me and I tried paddling as hard as I could with my double paddle. calm water and once they knew I was there they took off so fast it was like I was standing still. I never got much closer than 75-100 yds. I'm not at all surprised at the attitude of that Native person. I've ran into or camped behind more than a few who didn't respect THEIR land the way you like to think they do.

You failed to mention that that pic was taken just after Johnny 'Pepper' pushed me out of the boat onto bullwinkles back. I had lost my grip and slipped off it's back. Fortunately, you guys picked me up and strapped me in the boat. Thanks again for the timely rescue.

	Is that what happened? Wow! Here I thought that whole event had been staged. The help at Zup's had mentioned to "watch for Marcia the Moose". So when the boat stopped and Marcia came swimming up for a photo op (or more likely a handout), I just figured she was part of the show. Only when Old Salt woke up and looked out did a terrifying look come over her face. She reversed direction so quickly it nearly swamped the boat. I guess she had some flashback to her (and Old Salt's) younger days. -YB

There, he begged that I wait and fish for an hour or so while he made a pilgrimage to a holy spot - a stone circle - accessible from that portage, if you know where you are going (I tried finding it, without success, years later). In fact, QP DID return to my canoe about 2 hours later just before evening. I was all fished-out by that time. While QP didn't have a white streak in his hair, he DID have a certain dumbfounded faraway look in his eyes - like he had "seen things" - and kept that buzzed look on his face for the rest of his active QJ days. I understand he has recovered recently, however. As QP & I paddled back past the pictos en route to our camp, we experienced a rather mysterious and curious phenomenon. As we approached the pictos, the chamber into which he had placed the holy KITSCH totem was mysteriously empty... yet I had been fishing directly in front of it all the while QP was on his pilgrimage (shhhh... excellent LT fishing right there)! There were no other paddlers anywhere near that area of Darky at the time. QP, sporting that vacant-look he had acquired while deep in the woods visiting the religious stone circle, began to mutter and repeat himself. He kept indicating - more through motions than words - that the KITSCH totem "has ascended, it has ascended, it has ascended", presumably into the Spirit World where, I suppose, it continues to reside today. Anyhow, that's how I remember it.... Jimbo

	As it turned out, that stuff worked great as "caulking" to repair cracks in a canoe. Also, I think Magic Paddler applied it to his skin and found it to be both an effective bug repellent and anti-itch salve for poison ivy. Old Salt could have made a fortune in pharmacology, if only he would share his recipes. Jimbo

	Other that the fact that I think Stu is a self-absorbed, narcissistic, prick who lacks any discernable writing skill and likely hasn't been in possession of an original thought in 20 years... I really don't have an opinion. After my first year's subscription to BWJ I feel I knew everything of value that Stu had to offer and only renewed my subscription out of loyalty to some of the folks here who contributed (which is the only reason I kept thumbing it in future years ... in hopes of finding a nugget here and there). When it came time for a recent move, I boxed up all the copies of the journal I'd collected over the years and sent them, gratis, to a friend. Somehow, thereafter, I never got around to finding my renewal notice (of which there were several laying around). 	If today's pic seems a little "blurry" to anyone, it's not your eyesight. Rather, it was taken through the screen netting on my hammock tent. Safety comes first on my trips. In this case, I preferred the safety of my shelter to high probability of being exsanguinated by skeeters who were on the prowl... some of which loomed nearly as large as the bird on the flag. 	DD, I found your candid UN-PC FILTERED " non" opinion refreshing to say the least. I did the same as you for a while; I renewed my subscription long after I lost interest in MOST of the content because I enjoyed reading stories by people I know from here. But, since many post links to other sources the final straw for me was when they started rating the campsites and giving in-depth info that would seem to go against the idea of a little sweat equity/self discovery mentality most of us have. With over-use being a big issue in certain areas, rating sites 4-5 stars can't be a good solution to that problem.

	So we all agree that the BWJ has major flaws and Stu has a personality problem, but at least he is publishing something which may get new people interested in wilderness camping and occasionally publishes an article/photos which some people find interesting. I don't think the BWJ has to score a ten to have some value to its readers. So the BWJ is better than nothing.

Well, the earlier pic of the kid - the one with him holding the big LT - DID rate a full page in the BWJ. It ran with my story, "Fishing With Charlie" a few years back. The kid in the pic is Charlie, a 16 year-old, valedictorian of his large graduating class and, at the time, my next door neighbor. He had never been camping before but enjoyed fishing, so I talked him into it when my paddling partner copped out on me that year. The pic is taken on the Darky River, en route to Minn, but well before you reach Andrews Creek. A very large moose cow had just swam across in front of us... probably scrambling to get away from the pack of wolves that serenaded us the night before. Charlie was having a pretty good time! Jimbo 8-)

	ST, I won't deny that, over the years, many of my flamingo camps might well be described as... "interesting." Perhaps the most interesting camp I was party to wasn't even really MY camp. Rather, it was set up on Suzanette Lake by Yellowbird, Old Salt, Kingfisher & others (I think Intrepid Camper may have joined us there, too) as the primary site for "Jimboree 2006." Anyway, to keep the number in any one camp under the max of 9, I was camped nearby with an associated group. When we rounded the peninsula to approach their camp, it was truly a sight to behold... a mostly pink sight! Pink buoys, pink flags, strands of pink ornaments, pink flamingos everywhere, pink whirl-a-gigs that twisted in the wind, pink presents for everyone (including homemade pink flamingo Northern pike fishing lures), pink goblets, pink blow-up dolls & creatures, pink hats, pink shirts, and, of course, a huge bubbling lava-like vat of pink stew for supper (which, contrary to speculation, did NOT require pink Pepto Bismol afterward). Now THAT camp was "interesting." Today's POD reflects a rather tame camp, in comparison. I believe the pic was taken in late September, not far from Sue Falls, but I could be wrong. By the way, QJers travelling the northern tier of Quetico lakes from July 14th through 27th this year are welcomed to stop by at any campsite where they see some kind of "interesting" pink sign. It's most likely my camp, especially if there are two solo canoes nearby. Also, if you plan to travel the area during that time frame, feel free to shoot me a note and maybe we can plan to hook-up somewhere. Later, Jimbo

	Just as a "heads-up" to you guys--there won't be any POD's from us this year. Of course we weren't going to be taking a wilderness trip anyway, but as it turns out our northern Minnesota trip is canceled due to Spartan1 becoming ill, so we won't even get our "cabin week" on the Gunflint this summer either. I see there are no POD's for the past two days. Someone else is going to have to step up and provide the POD's for Quiet Journey, as I need my morning "fix" of canoe country beauty to keep my sanity. At least once a week I require a beautiful sunrise or sunset, or a lovely lake with blue sky overhead and puffy white clouds. The rest of the time you can post your fish photos, or whatever else you like. Thanks so much! Spartan2

	Spartan 2, I just sent db about 20 or so pics (15 from my trip in July; 5-6 rather ancient ones). Whether they will satisfy anybody's need for a "fix" is another matter & remains to be seen! The only ones I was really happy with were a couple I took of some "pet" snapping turtles that followed us around our camp on Cirrus Lake. I got dangerously up close & personal with a couple of them... as I hope you will soon see. In any case, I second your appeal for POD's. I've been missing them, too. I hope Spartan 1 gets to feeling better soon. I know how tough it must be to miss a trip.... Jimbo

	They were paddling by the aforementioned campsite and I was using the zoom on my camcorder trying to get a better glimpse of the canoe and its passengers cause they were looking over at us in a funny way. My camcorder wouldn't focus on them in the distance but on the tree in front of me and I accidentally snapped a still photo. When people paddle by this site and see a canoe up on the rocks I'm sure they wonder what the hell it's doing there.

	POD from Oct 2nd - 12th were taken in LLC Lady Boot Bay and Toe Lake. Those on (11th-12th) from the west side of the "boot" as we paddled a south direction. This area was hit hard by the wind storm of July 2014. Impressive damage, I suppose that's why I included so many pics on that theme. That concludes my batch for the year. Did the Northern Lights come out? Did I catch a particularly big fish? Were there bear tracks? Did we find blueberries? (or something else that was unusual, exciting or worth bragging about). Nowadays, it's more about just being there and tuning in to the remoteness and wildness of the place, about breathing in the pristine air and seeing the vividness of colors untouched by haze, about being able to drink out of a lake, about feeling the strength and weariness of muscles that just paddled across a treacherous bay and knowing not too many people are able to do that, about hearing the drip-drip-drip of water coming off my Bending Branches on the return stroke, about seeing a landscape unscathed by man. 	I love those meandering creeks, even when choked. Came through the creek/marshland south from McEwen toward Glacier late one evening and it might be my favorite paddle ever in Quetico. So calm. So pregnant. So peaceful. Saw three beaver at close range, and one slapped hard and went. -kypaddler

	I'm guessing in the spring before the weeds build up there is considerable current thru there? I like those meandering creeks too as long as you can paddle them and not wade most of time. Jean creek is great when the water is high enough and Bearpelt creek is a nice paddle BOTH ways.

	It's amazing to me how much different areas can look/paddle with just a little higher/lower water level. I really liked that paddle despite the vegetation issue. I think there are some pics in my POD's showing Jean Creek at the lowest level I've ever seen it. When I compare those pics to my 21-day 2015 spring trip you wouldn't even know you were in the same area.

	It's the start of the B-Chain going south from Pickerel Lake. My first time thru there. I knew there was a dam, just didn't know it was so prominent. Quite the flow there, I'm sure despite the warnings kayakers probably try/run it. I'd give it a shot in warm weather, empty plastic canoe and someone with rescue bag ready to toss.

	The goal was to roast the fish whole but the smoke flavor was an added bonus. As I described in trip report the fish was left till blackened thoroughly on each side then skin peeled back, flesh removed and then the whole skeleton was pulled out leaving the other side. I didn't scale it, just gutted it. Almost no waste and fish was moist and very tasty. I liked it so much and it was so quick and easy I think this will be my go to way to cook fish since I don't care for breaded fish that much. Bigger fish that I might get a couple of meals out will still be filleted. Sushi ? I like it but if you Google eating RAW style using freshwater fish you'll see lots of warnings about it. Freshwater fish carries bacteria/fungus that if not killed by freezing/cooking can make you really sick or give you worms. I'd make sure to ask about it in class or look it up on our own. When I still tripped with a group, 7 of us went to the BWCA. I caught a mess of SMB and while I was catching them another guy was frying them up. By the time I got done fishing everyone else had eaten their fill and went out fishing and left me to fix my own supper, a little inconsiderate from my point of view. Next morning I heard a shout from one of the guys who had went to use the “facilities” Turns out he had worms in his stool. One by one EVERYONE but me had the same thing happen to them. Freaked them ALL out. Turns out the fish they ate breaded and pan fried was still too raw. I didn't bread mine and had no problems at all. All the guys went to their doctors when they got back and they gave them some kind of antibiotic but said they thought the worms had passed but keep an eye out for awhile. A couple of the married guys said it make for weird looks from their wives who caught them peering intently into the toilet bowl and they had to explain that like FIDO they had worms too.

When you take that Sushi class, ask your teacher, maybe there is some kind of marinade you could use on raw fish to kill the parasites? My girlfriend at the time made chicken in the fridge to supplement my grilled burgers and brats. It got "cooked" by lemon and wine or something? I'm pretty sure it wasn't "cooked" with heat. Everyone loved it. I know no one died and I didn't hear about anyone getting sick either. I was a little worried….

	db, I've had that type of chicken and fish too. The lemon is acidic and that "cooks" the fish. Ceviche Recipe \| SimplyRecipes.com YB, YES, They did leave the dishes but I'm kind of fussy about kitchen sanitation issues because having been in Army I know what happen's when people don't keep a clean kitchen. Those guys didn't pay attention to things and that's why they ate that undercooked SMB. 6 hungry guys eating fish as fast as the cook could make it. Because it was breaded I think they thought when the breading got a little crisp the fish had to be done and didn't check thoroughly enough. When the worms came, and I was the only one that didn't get them, I knew then what had happened and I "might" of gloated just a wee bit.

	I had Ceviche for the first time in Panama last year. I liked it an suffered no I'll effects, eve though the citrus juice does not kill bacteria or worms. Just lucky I guess.

	SP2, I didn't want to be there either. That was on the east end of Quetico lake where I was stranded for a day. The pic doesn't do it justice. The worst wind/rain for the longest time I've ever run into.

	Last summer must have been one that was packed with serious storms Jimbo and I had a day similar to this on Cirrus in July. It didn't last all day, but it was furious when it blew through. Luckily we were tucked into a reasonably well protected campsite and had a tarp up and were still getting drenched. I'm not sure if it was from the rain that was coming in sideways or from the wind shearing off the tops of the waves and producing spray. I was just glad we were not on the water paddling because the storm blew in and was raging within less than 5 minutes. This didn't happen on the exact same day as the storm down south that blew down all the trees and produced a couple of casualties, but it was within a day or so. dd

	Yup db, Your pics are closer than mine. Luckily for me, my campsite was sitting on a high area so standing water wasn't an issue. Like dd said, even with tarp up the rain was coming sideways and the wind was roaring like a freight train. My weather event lasted all night, thru the following day and most of that night as well. I was really glad I was in a nice safe camp. Times like that really make you realize how insignificant you are in the big picture of things.

	ST - I distinctly remember that very day (9/26) you snapped your POD. MagicPaddler & I were hunkered down on a west-facing beach campsite over on southern Pickerel Lake. He literally "blew in" the afternoon before, paddling into the face of some nasty wind that had just kicked up. It was so gusty that I had to take the lake trout I was grilling off the fireplace (I couldn't control the fire) and move it onto my stove in a more protected spot. I had been totally immersed in my cooking when a strange feeling prompted me to look up and - poof!! - there he was, MagicPaddler, beaching his canoe where 15 seconds before there had been nobody in my field of vision. The dude really is MAGIC! For his next trick he performed an even greater feat, producing a cold beer out of his bag of magic! It went down especially well with my lake trout! That next day (9/26) - the day of your POD - was truly bleak, wet, windy and altogether nasty in every respect. The steady onslaught of fierce winds and rain out of the west eventually proved to be too much for my prized CCS kitchen tarp, ripping it from one end to the other. Ultimately it was my fault; I should have reset its angle sooner. Anyway, just like you, we stayed hunkered down ALL DAY LONG. We experimented with various spots for wind & rain protection where we might cook & eat our meals in peace. Some day I'll learn my lesson NOT to set up camp on west-facing sites when bad weather is expected. 9 out of 10 times it is quite beautiful but that 10th time pays for all! Anyway, being socked in by weather can be especially tough during those shoulder seasons. When a solid soaking combines with chilly weather you'd better be buttoned up in your shelter with a good book (or bottle) in your hand! Fortunately, I had both! Of course, it's those challenging times that help us appreciate just how golden the moments really are when Mother Nature favors us with her grace. Also, I believe that coming out of those challenges, storms, etc., relatively unscathed must produce endorphins and something like a "runner's high." You walk away with improved confidence that you can do more than just "weather" Life's storms; you can actually thrive. You also develop a fuller appreciation for small pieces of luck that drift your way... like a cold beer that magically appears just when you needed one! Later, Jimbo

	Jimbo, I didn't have a cold beer but I made a serious dent in my homemade coffee/hot chocolate mix. I would come out from under tarp when there was a short lull and use my binoculars to scan to the west looking for any paddlers CRAZY enough to be out in that weather. I guess I should have been looking to the EAST.

	Reading Jimbo’s description of the storm makes me think of storms I have been in in Quetico. Most of them I enjoy but there was that one. The one that blew my pants away. That one still scares me and causes me even to this day to be a little more careful about where I hang my hammock.

	Whoa! You're right, ST... quite a picture today! Was it taken in the autumn? I've seen water get something like that but, wow, talk about being in the right place at the right time! Magic, re: your comment about "storm pics," that September storm that blew you into my camp certainly makes "honorable mention" on my Most Miserable List. You, DD & I probably had some worse ones (chillier, anyway) when we were up near Hudson Bay in Opasquia Park. That first windstorm tried to blow my shelter over into Manitoba (& you guys helped me haul it down from the high tree branches). The next real big one, though, was far worse. It was most fortunate we elected NOT to set up camp at the end of the portage where that massive tree toppled over. That one would've wiped us all out! How could you ever have predicted a tree like that would come down? There were no "widow-maker" qualities about it. It was immense & seemingly both healthy & sturdy. It seems we were lucky... especially considering what happened to those folks down in southern Quetico this year. We have plenty to be thankful for! There have been some really good pics recently. 	Todays picture is of our campsite after a 40 minute hailstorm rolled through. We had heavy rains everyday of the trip this year, but all the important gear stayed dry, and a good time was had. That storm will probably be the strongest memory of the trip though.

	We had been paddling into the wind all day, nothing fierce, but making us work. We had been at camp about 5 minutes, and I asked my brother "Did the wind really sit down as soon as we hit camp?" He replied "It sure did!" We laughed, and 2 minutes later the storm hit. Due to our campsite facing East, we never saw it coming. Yesterday's and today's pictures were taken just after the storm passed. We got the tarp almost set-up before it hit, I had my tarp up for my hammock, so I rode out the storm under it in my Helinox, my son and brothers were huddled under the tarp with all our gear, holding one side of the tarp since it wasn't up yet. I didn't really feel bad about it though!

	Thanks so much for all your accolades. I have been putting in a lot of time with photography since I got my first "real" camera this past February. The Milky Way shot, for those who are interested, is pretty complex. I took 12 shots of the night sky at around 9 pm (at 22 sec with 1 sec delay between each.) Then I went to sleep for a few hours and woke up around 1:30 am to an 80% moon. With the camera left as it was on the tripod, I then shot the same set up but with different exposure, focus point, ISO, aperture etc. to capture the foreground under the moonlight. Back home I stacked the 12 night sky exposures. This considerably reduces the noise, inherent to shooting at ISO 3200. Then I took that shot and blended it with the moonlit foreground shot and voila! By the way, MagicPaddler, the star shine on the water actually is consistent. It comes from the bright star directly above it in the sky. It does look kind of weird and I had considered removing it but, in the end, I left it.

We are on the creek connecting Poacher Lake to Sunday Lake, this past fall. For the most part, it was easy going and pretty. But there were a couple of pinch points where you had to jump into the water and walk your canoes through, around and over rocks. We didn't stay on Poacher but took "the back way" to avoid a Bayley Bay that was so chopped up that just getting from Prairie Portage to the Poacher Portage was nerve-wracking. That last stretch (after leaving the lee of the big island to the east) was especially so, as we had to paddle parallel to the waves that were crashing in from Bayley. Not how we wanted to start a trip (hence the grumpy faces) but we made it to Agnes despite the wind and late start and then to Woodside by the next afternoon. Even though the dude wasn't wearing a life jacket. Anyway, that's not my stringer in this pic, which was taken just a few months ago. Unfortunately, mine is on the bottom of Glacier Lake. Being a solo paddler I've long ago made clipping everything in and wearing my PFD automatic, so I've never lost anything. I've also been more than lucky and have only dumped once in the Q, and that was in a TRUE solo canoe. I might buy one of those little foam floats people use for boat keys and put on my stringer just in case after reading about your misfortune.

	I have the same stringer, too... a couple of them, in fact. I bought a second one when the plastic in the first one wore out with age. I was occasionally losing a fish - usually a bigger, stronger one - while paddling back to camp. For a while I doubled up loops on bigger fish just to be sure but, eventually, I bought the identical stringer which works just fine. I like them better than the metal ones which I find bigger fish can more easily pop or twist open. In recent years I've gone back to threading fish I intend to keep with a simple needle & ring fishing stringer (see: (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) ), especially the larger ones. They have to tear their own lip or jaw to get that one off... though I don't put it past a really mean pike to do so. As I will eat trout or walleye first, I don't find myself dining on pike that often... but, occasionally, they join me for dinner. I probably enjoy their taste more than most folks in my camps. 	Great story, kyp! I went on a trip many years ago up the Falls Chain to McKenzie Bay. One of the guys brought swim fins and a mask (glad he was portaging his own gear!). He found an amazing amount of fishing gear on that trip- poles, lures, etc. There’s a lot of stuff at the bottom of those lakes!! (Including a pole of mine resting peacefully at the bottom of Friday Bay ) ml

	I think losing rods and reels, among other tackle, is a badge of experience, among fishing paddlers. On my first trip to Iron, I had borrowed two decent rods and reels from my dad, because I couldn't afford them at the time. We went to Curtain Falls to fish. I stashed them in a 'safe' place. When we had returned to our west side camp, I realized I had forgotten them. My brother and I made a mad paddle back across the lake to retrieve them. Sadly, they were gone. I spent the remainder of the trip praying that dad wouldn't kill me. As you might have guessed, I lived through it, although I gave him rods and reels for his next several birthdays.

	So far I've been fortunate to find more stuff than I've lost. There's an old thread on QJ someplace re: "lost & found" that is pretty entertaining. I listened to a speaker at Copia one year - I think it was Kevin Callan - who said he was fond of taking underwater goggles with him on trips. He joked that he really didn't need to bring fishing tackle along... he could generally "find' whatever he needed just offshore around the most popular campsites and portages. I'm not sure I could get all that excited about diving for fishing lures. Getting a rusty old lure - likely as not, lodged tightly in some log or between rocks - hooked in my hand underwater is not my idea of fun! I still fish with a rod & reel I fished out of Pickerel Lake 8-10 years ago. Jimbo

	I have tried a number of fish stringers. IMHO the simple needle and ring fish stringer used by Jimbo is the best stringer. Other types of stringers will not hold large fish when you are paddling back to camp. What I have started to do in the last few years if I intend to eat the fish is fillet the fish almost right away. I carry a fillet knife and board with me (a canoe paddle works but not as well) and find a convenient shore with an appropriate rock and fillet the fish. After the fish is filleted I put it in a plastic bag. If it is warm I will put the plastic bag in a wet cloth to help keep the fish cool. If I need two fish for dinner, I will repeat the process for the second fish. In my opinion dragging a fish behind your canoe is a big pain and often results in a mess if you catch another fish. If you clean the fish away from your campsite you don't have to worry about keeping your campsite clean. With apologies to PETA, I think it is more human to kill your fish sooner rather than later.

	As I understand it, a stringer like the one pictured should go through both lips. Since fish need to alternately open and close both their mouth and their gills when breathing normally, going through both lips allows them to do that more easily. That's my theory anyway. Plus, paddling with an open mouthed fish on the stringer is way more of a drag. That's a fact.

I never knew that. - kypaddler I don't drag fish if I'm paddling. Put in the canoe, paddle for a while, then back in the water. If I'm lightly paddling to control drift while working a bank, then yeah, I'll leave the fish in the water.

	Frankly, I was crest-fallen that Jan. 9's dragonfly POD didn't generate this kind of discussion. I stalked that sucker for a long time and snapped a bunch of photos to get one in focus. (Had my cruddy little camera set on "micro" and had to snap from about 3 inches away to get the focus to work.) kypaddler

	That exquisite RED dragonfly? You know, I am surprised that I didn't comment upon that one, as I am known for my love of dragonflies in general, and of great dragonfly photos in particular! I remember enjoying it immensely. I am so much a dragonfly afficianado that my annual wall calendar (given as a gift to very special family members and friends) this year was all dragonfly and damselfly photos. Anyway. . .it was a lovely photo. And I did enjoy it very much. The fish photos, they are OK, but I'll take a great bug any day!

	I spent hours one time trying to snap shots of dragonflies in flight on the shore of Kawishiwi Lake. It was borderline successful, but I probably deleted 300 images to get two. And they aren't fabulous. But it was fun. I really, really like dragonflies! I won't subject you to all of my butterfly photos. Or my praying mantises and bumblebees. This is enough.

I've developed an aversion to having creatures suffer at my hands. Seriously. I was a teenage pellet gun hunter and hated to see (up close) rabbits and squirrels suffer from my bad shots. Same with fishing. I've accidentally killed two very large pike when I couldn't get them to recover. Call me a stupid softy but seeing fish dragged on a stringer gets to me now. I go to shore and club them hard on the head with a rock before fileting. I don't even enjoy live beheadings. Anyway, I'm loving the pics especially the close up bug ones. Sweet centipede Kypaddler! And Spartan2 I'm a big fan of your work as well.

	If no one is around close enough to see me, I have been known to pick up quickly mummifying earthworms from a hot concrete or asphalt parking lot and relocate them to the nearest piece of dirt. I am sure this is some sort of twisted penance for all of the Redworms I used as bait from the local feed store cob pile as a kid. MossBack
