Frost River Loop from #50 Cross Bay to #51 Round L

Doing this in May 2016. Has anyone ever done it? Things I should watch out for? Things worth checking out? For the most part we're going to explore and experience what we can on our own, but just wondering if there is any "do not miss" things out there. Will probably swing up through Lil Sag and fish before heading east and back to Round Lake making it a 7 day trip.

I did that exact loop in September of 2014, Fantastic trip!  You should have good water levels in May.....Let me check my maps and log and I can give you more details....We traveled to Frost Lake the first day and spent two nights there, it is an absolutely beautiful lake with sand beaches.....lake trout and Northerns....We split the river into two days and overnight end on Bologna which is only a couple of hours from Frost lake.....We stocked up on water from Frost lake with a couple of dromedaries as the water on Bologna ,even after filtering is awful!   Day 2 on the river is a very long day, I think we had over 20 beaver dams to lift/drag over....very scenic though!  All in all a tremendous trip!

We were planning on making it to Frost on the first night. Doing an off day (maybe fishing?), and then were thinking about Bologna lake, but with what you just said about water quality we may have to take a close look at that. I dont doubt we could make it through the whole river system. We're hoping to spend the last couple days of the 8 days around lil sag and the lakes just east of there fishing and exploring. Coming out on Memorial Day weekend may make that area busy though, we may have to play it by ear.
