The "old ladies" will be out and about, leaving Crane Lake on Aug 3rd.  Will paddle up Loon River and Little Vermilion, then travel the MN-BWCAW shoreline of LaCroix from west to east.  Getting a tow back from Bottle Portage on Aug 16th.  We have a blue kayak and two yellow and one red Poke boats in our flotilla.  Stop in and say Hello! if you happen to cross our path.   Smiley

Thanks for the best wishes Spartan2.  We did have a good time on LacLaCroix and just returned Tuesday.  We paddled about 70 miles, from Crane Lake boat landing to Bottle Portage at East end of LaCroix.  Then got a return ride back with Anderson's Outfitters.
This was my new dog's first camping/paddling trip and he seemed to like it very much and took all the challenges in stride.  By the end of the trip he was a pro at sitting in the boat and living in a tent.

Glad you had a good trip IC !

Did you try your little towable "pod" idea out or was the bigger boat all you needed?

Me and Blue and some of my gear in the 12' Poke boat and a whole additional Poke boat, stuffed with gear that was towed.  My friend Brenda and I took turns towing the "cargo" boat.  It slowed us down to around 2 mph and was hard work when pulling against a headwind and/or current.  Took us a couple days towing to figure out how long the rope should be and how best to pack/trim the cargo.  The cooler float idea would not have worked, not enough cargo room and not streamlined enough.  The bigger boat is in Florida this summer and should work perfectly for next year.  I'll be bringing that boat north when I drive back from Florida early in 2017.

Our route was along the west side of Coleman Island and we did not see any campers or canoes until we got down near the pictographs and Warrior Hill.  In that area most of the sites were occupied on Thurs and Friday and the rangers who stopped by to check our permits said of the 17 sites between Nina Moose River and Minnesota Agnes, 15 were occupied.
