Just got a look at the Winter2016 edition of the BWJ containing a well crafted story "Older & Wiser" by our very own Jim Carrier.  WELL DONE.

Also, thanks for the kind words ... more than happy to be along for the ride.  I figure that any contribution I made on this trip was just an installment on long overdue payback.

Thanks again, my friend!

Any way to read the story IF you no longer get the BWJ ?  Jimbo can tell a great story.

Without going into details, I don't WANT to renew my subscription JUST to read an article by ANY QJ member as good as it maybe.

Maybe buying ONE issue is an option, I'll look into it.

I saw this.  I go through and read every article in order and it's next in line for me.  What I want to know is which one of you guys is in the photo of the person in the canoe?

TomT -

Strangely enough, it's the person that is credited for taking the picture!  Some pretty tricky camera work there, eh?

Alas, our buddy Stu is sometimes a little lax re: specific requests (ie. "Stu, please ensure Wayne gets credit for any pics used.").

It's the second time that has happened to me in the BWJ... BOTH times involving a pic of me!  Years ago Stu ran an account of my first canoe trip to Woodland Caribou.  There's a pic of me in that one, too... credited, once again, to "me."  That's despite my specific request that my son, Benjamin, get his due recognition.

Truly, DD took some great pics on this trip, including two others which I felt should have been put into the article (& neither was).  One involved the giant turtles that patrolled our campsite on Cirrus Lake.  Another concerned a simple white hat full of gorgeous, freshly-picked blueberries... a pic almost as delicious as our pancakes the next morning!

The past year of canoe tripping was pretty tough on me.  Fellow QJer's DentonDoc &, later, MagicPaddler (during a later storm-wracked trip in September) were both incredibly tolerant & supportive, making it possible for me to have two very enjoyable experiences during a period when most folks were telling me it wasn't going to be possible due to surgery.

Debility related to this "aging" thing can be a real downer if we allow it to be so.  Exercising a little care along the way, I'll at least go down kicking... which I expect to be some years off, yet!

Later,

Jimbo   Cool

Jimbo,

Thanks for writing the article and I will be looking forward to the full length version you promised in the "Stories" section.

Standard apologies for briefly sliding off into the weeds here for a moment.

Yourself, a gentleman from Naperville whom I have never met, several others here on the forum and a couple of older friends I have taken trips with,  have all become my daily inspiration to take better care of myself.  I am a bit lazy by nature and I truly believe if it were not for the need to stay healthy and fit to make "One More Trip" I would deteriorate more rapidly than I would  otherwise. This past September we crossed paths with a gentleman on Kawnipi  who was on his 61st trip to the Q and he had his 86 year old father with him.  I want to be the son now and the 86 year old guy later, that some young pup comments about.  You and everyone else who  has defied your age and struggles with some form of physical limitations is doing a service by making the rest of us aware of it.  Keep up the good work.

Kind Regards,

MossBack

You can usually buy just the digital version of the article online. Give them a call if you can't find it up on their site.
