portage dog back from AK - a fantastic trip and no Scouts lost, injured or eaten!  Pics are in the works MB!

Thank you all for your comments on the pd series and glad you enjoyed them.

Yes, the wolves were at the International Wolf Center - we were there for the Dinner with Wolves program last summer.  They feed them road kill or nuisance animals that have been taken and freeze the carcasses for a bit to kill off any parasites, etc. to keep the wolves healthier.  It's either one deer for the pack or one beaver per wolf.  This was just before they introduced the two new arctic pups into the exhibit. The alpha female took over the carcass shortly after the pic and no one got to eat much after that....she just kinda of laid next to it.  The staff says she does that often...takes possession for a while.  And do visit...great info and always something new there.  They have some cool films in the theater too.

The two eggs were turtle eggs found in the water at the terminus of Isabella Creek, at the northbound portage.  I reburied then in the sandy bank with a bit of hope.

The bunnies were cotton tail rabbits and momma was close by.  They were found at a campsite on Sunday on a point on the south shore.  We stayed away from the nest right after the photo.  My understanding, from the guide at Denali NP, between rabbits and hare is that rabbits are born furless and eyes closed in a nest, while hare are born with fur, eyes open and on open ground...ready to go for the most part.

The mergansers was a fun shot and I kept hoping they would not move into the water, which they never did.  That was on the central island in Baird and the only good campsite on that lake.

The pipe organ cedar was on the bog/beaver pond portage into the south end of Kahshapiwi just where you find real ground on cliff side.  Interestingly I shot a very similar one of white birch up in AK last week.

Today's pic must be the paddling version of Art Noir.
I could see Bogie at the helm.   Smiley Cool
