One thing about more than one paddler its so much easier getting moving shots like this when you don't have to worry about wind/waves.  Grin

Yes, Anna and I have often remarked that we are able to get our loon shots (and also this eagle) only because Grandpa is in the stern keeping the canoe steady for us.  Once we spot a subject, we pretty much stow the paddles and go into photo-mode.   Wink

We ended our 12-day vacation (after a week at Rockwood Lodge on the Gunflint Trail in a cabin, with day trips in the canoe and lots of floating and swimming in the lake, hiking at Grand Marais, etc.) with a two-night stay at Naniboujou Lodge, on Lake Superior near Hovland.  This may be my favorite spot in the world, and Anna has come to love it as much as I do.  It is like stepping back in time.

Anna loves to go down to the shore and search for the perfect rock specimen.  She spent almost all of one day and part of another in that activity.  She brought home small rocks, and gifted me with a few as well, including one perfectly round one that my daughter-in-law has now mounted into a pendant for me.

In between these forays, she cleaned up enough to enjoy high tea in the solarium with us, and a delicious dinner in the beautiful dining room.

On the second day it was drizzly and cold.  We traveled up to Grand Portage and visited the National Monument, toured the Stockade, and did the short hike to High Falls on the Pigeon River.

But Naniboujou was the best ending of all to our time together this summer.

C'mon, you folks!  That is my main reason for checking in each day at QJ--the POD!  We've done our best this year, but now it is up to someone else to provide my daily "fix"!

Show us your latest canoe country photos!  Or even some old ones from your archives! Wink

I sent some old ones, been long enough I doubt many will remember them.

I don't get it? Everyone has either camera/Smart Phone and I know people take pics of their trips.

Why are we always running out of PODS?
They DON'T have to be PRO quality pics were not SNOBS here.  Wink Grin Grin

ST,

When I've sent pics in before for PODs, I've attached them to an e-mail.  Usually 4 or 5 attachments was the most my server could digest without completely bogging down.  I was successful doing so again yesterday until about my 3rd try when it told me my files were too large.  I dropped the number of attachments down to 1 at a time - it seems to be able to handle that much - but that seems to be such a labor-intensive way to do things.  Since "Photobucket" no longer wishes to host pics destined for 3rd party websites (like QJ), is there some OTHER way of sending pics for POD's?  I'm wondering how you, Spartan2, and other generous contributors manage this process... via e-mail or some other way?

The last time I sent in POD's, the e-mail worked just fine (with 4-5 attachments at a time) so I'm not sure what's changed since then.

Mossback's recent posts in the Inukshuk forum have encouraged me to own up to my computer illiteracy & limitations, etc... it could be I'm simply blind to something really obvious.  Nevertheless, SOMETHING seems to have changed, and it likely has to do with my server.

Any thoughts on a better way to send in POD's quickly are appreciated!

Jimbo,

I'm not the one to ask this question because I don't have the technical knowledge to answer it.

I hope db or the other tech SAVVY people here get in on this.

I'm tech challenged too. Like I told MB, the only reason I get things done is because I'm PERSISTENT.

What I usually end up doing is GOOGLING how to do whatever and then going thru the tutorials. I find one that is easy to understand, I keep the page open
and run a test of what I want to do.

Often I fail multiple times but IF I keep it, most times I get it.

I STILL use the Granddaddy of mail service, AOL ( Free Version) I use the Chrome Browser.

I think the FILE and OR pic size has something to do with your issues.  Maybe check your Mail settings and see if THEY limit what you can send?

My AOL mail says I can upload 100 pics but there those little jpg types.

I just joined Imgur, they still support that 3rd party hosting. I'm going to try something later today and see how many pics I can upload to QJ?

IF it works out, that MIGHT be the way to go?

Jimbo,  Have you ever heard of Alan's Axiom.  "No thing or no person is ever without value, they can always serve as a bad example"

Glad I could be an ignorant inspiration to you on reviewing your own computer skills.
(yes, tongue firmly in my cheek here)

I always find it interesting that we savor a week or two per year of walking off the grid for a while, slowly slipping across a lake and sleeping on the ground or in a bag of string for you tree dwellers, and then beat our heads against the digital wall all winter while we try to stay current with technology already mastered by people 15% of our own age.

I think that the barrier that stops most of us is that it should be an easy process. I have neither the time or persistence to jump through hoops. I find it easy and quick to do it on other sites and I really wish it could be that way here. If the process can’t be changed, maybe someone who can translate tech speak into plain English can post the English version into a thread that can be pinned to the top.

I’m not unwilling to contribute PODs, I don’t know how. Sad I hope there’s a way to send multiple pics at once. Kiss

POD's are very easy.  You just email to the address and upload your photo files.  They do not have to be resized to a small size like when you are posting a photo on a message on the site.  db takes charge of resizing the files, so if you can handle them on your email program, it all goes through just fine.

I send six or more photos one each email because I like to send captions as well.  I sent him about six or seven emails with this last group and it didn't take very long at all.  Just attached my photo files to my email like I would to any email I was sending to a friend with an attached photo.

Hope that helps.  the address is POD_AT_quietjourney.com
