Now THAT’s funny!!

Will db be offering prints for sale on QJ anytime soon?  Screen-printed sweatshirts, maybe?

It would be cool to paddle over and find a little pot of gold on the shore.  That's the world I want to live in.  Cool

I'm half-Irish and was told by my 100% Irish mom that seeing a rainbow was a sign of good luck ahead.

This was the night before, after that wind event. The next day I took that bad fall. Another childhood belief down the drain.  Wink Grin Grin

Todays POD kind of looks like my favorite campsite on Sturgeon Lake.

Just east of the Northern end of Scripture Island.
First time there. I wouldn't stay in a site that big during peak paddling season, but in the Spring I knew
I would have the area to myself.

It would be a great basecamp site for a few days.

Nice moose shot ST!  I haven't seen one since 2007.  I'm feeling lucky on this upcoming trip.

I should also say I've heard them twice since then.  In 2011 I had a moose swimming and diving right off my front porch but it was dark and I was in bed.  And in 2013 I heard one crashing in the forest on the mainland while me and my dog sat on an island only about 50-75 yards away.  It was a very still evening.  My dog was hyper focused on the sound.

My most memorable moose encounter was one where I didn't even see it.  Huh

I was going from Badwater to Omeme Lk at that first little portage. I heard a crashing in the woods that sounded like a freight train going thru the tag alders.

I could see the brush moving, heard the rattle of the horn on wood but never did see the moose.
It must have been a big bull though because it was moving fast in some really dense cover.

Yeah there’s no mistaking that sound for a dear or a bear. Me and my dog were sitting watching dusk come on when we heard some crashes in the forest across from us. We were on an island on Birch lake very close to shore. My dog was laser focused on the sound and not making a move. As the crashing came close to shore she let out a single loud bark. And we never heard the sound again. This proves they can be stealthy if they want to. 😄

The landing area for that little jump portage is a narrow strip of land. All I could think of was that Bull coming out right on top of me and with no place to go what would he do.  Cry

Luckily the wind was blowing toward him and I think he winded me and veered off. Moose/deer or bear, if they want to move quietly they can move thru cover a man could never move that silently in.

One of the reasons a hunter NEVER want's to wound an animal and have to go after it in thick cover.
