That was on one of the portages into Hurlburt where I had all that blowdown to clear.

If I have to stop to rest/clear portage I like to find a spot where I can prop the canoe up. Easier to reload that way.

I'd rather meet a moose in rut.  You take more selfies in the bush than anyone I know. Grin

I'd rather meet a moose in rut too.
Funny thing is that for years I never took any "selfies" at all. I would show other people my pics and they would all ask why I didn't have any pics of me, just scenery?

I guess they didn't think I was actually there doing what they wish they could. So now every trip I take a few just to prove I was there.  Grin

I can SO identify with that!  For many years on our trips I had the only camera, and after each trip I made a photo album.  Lots and lots of pictures.  And when we would share our album with family and/or friends, they would say, "Was Neil the only one on this trip?  I don't see a single photo of you, Lynda?"  Finally, I used to request that my husband take the camera and at least take one or two snaps of me, just to prove that I was actually there.  Back in those days, it wasn't practical to do a "selfie" like it is now.  The equipment just wouldn't focus at arm's length.

Sometimes we would set the camera up on a tree stump to get a photo of the two us out in the "wilderness", and put the setting on timer.  It would beep and I would run to get into the picture.  Those were the days!   Wink  (Photo is taken at campsite on Basswood Lake, 1985.)

Great throwback pick SP2 Cool
I have an old Nikon 35mm waterproof camera that I never use anymore but was my first decent outdoor camera.

I bought it because it had an infrared remote which enabled you once you had an object framed to adjust the lens and take your shot. No running to get in the picture. I thought that was the coolest thing.

But like all old school cameras, you never really knew if you got the shot you wanted or a good shot at all until you had the film developed.

For me, one of the best things about digital is you can see immediately if the shot is any good. That and the ability to delete bad shots is really a nice feature even for point and shoot guys like me.

Well, obviously, in 1985 those photos were a crop shoot, too.  As I remember, we shot about 5 of them, and once the film was developed I just kept the one I liked best.  I did a lot of that back in those days.  I would get my photos from the developer and immediately go through and throw out about 2/3 to 3/4 of them, just keeping the ones that were in focus or the best exposed ones.  Took many, many rolls of 36 exposures on the later trips after I got interested in photography, and threw out probably a few thousand prints.

Digital is so different.  I got my first digital camera in 2003.  Took a few slides on that 2003 trip, and haven't taken a photo with film since.

I just got a new Nikon waterproof camera this year.  I let the grandchildren use my old Panasonic W3000 on our Stingray Adventure in the Caribbean last December and forgot to tell them that it had a limit to 30 minutes underwater.  It was ruined.  Fortunately the card was fine, and they got some really nice stingray photos!  When I went to replace it, the new model wasn't out yet, so I went with the Nikon CoolPix instead.  I like it so far.  A nice little pocket camera and it does pretty well underwater for what we like to do.
