Incidentally, I spotted a "Great Horned Owl" on the beach there once... except that it turned out to be an odd-shaped stump when we paddled in for a closer look.

There is a 'chicken' on the shore at 3J on Cirrus too.  Paddling up at dusk, my then 8 yr. old turns around and asks; "Are there chickens in Quetico?"  "No" I reply.  "Well there's one at our campsite." he says.  Sure enough, the rock formation looked exactly like a chicken.    Grin

If I had a dollar for every "animal" I observed while paddling, stealthy made my approach with camera ready only to find it was a rock/moss/tree, I would be a wealthy man.  Wink Grin Grin

Even using the compact binoculars I've paddled out of my way for a wildlife shot only to be embarrassed when it turned out to be nothing but rock/fauna. Embarrassed Grin Grin

Even though we don't fish and I often get tired of fish photos, I have to say that this has been a very well-photographed and a very interesting group of POD's.   Thanks for sharing your trip with us Mk631!   Cool

Thank you Lynda.
When db last said he was running out of PODs, I dumped an awful lot of pics on him.  I enjoyed seeing them, but I'm glad we're on to someone elses!
Thanks PJ for the "Queen of the Nile" set.

And there's a good dinosaur on Rawn, north/northeast of 1NC at the base of the cliff.  My kids spotted it.

Yeah.  I sat in that thing all day 2 with my pillow and a bag of Sauvignon Blanc.  Best day ever.

With my track record in hammocks, that sounds really good.  Wink Grin Grin

That morning I woke up, took my clothes off, got out of the tent, grabbed my pillow, stopped at the food pack and grabbed the bag of wine, my kindle and 2 cigars and didn't leave that hammock for several hours.  When the sun was at its highest I went swimming.  It was windy but hot.  The wife went for a hike and took a nap that day.  Later, we went fishing, had a great dinner and sunset and some cocktails.  She now loves Quetico and after 25 years, understands why we go.

TMI

So in today's POD that mid-photo-rock is near 584 (little goldfish shaped island) and the sun is setting really far north -- Late June trip to enjoy fishing and black flies?   Cool

No tan lines though.

Late July actually.  7/28 - 8/2.  Almost all of my pic's were taken on the same day. As I was solving life's problems in the hammock, I remembered that QJ needed POD's.  I'm much better behind a fishing rod than a camera.

FWIW, the cigar my wife is smoking is a Cohiba Behike 52.   As Ferris Bueller said; "It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

Small Bauza Forest.  A single makes for a wonderful 45 minutes if you do not hurry it.  Standard apologies for those who hate cigars, especially used ones.
