If these hardy folks were wearing Hunter orange, it would look more like Deer Camp than a canoe trip!  Wink Grin Grin

Yes, solotripper; This could of been deer hunting weather; This was the week Lake Superior had those record waves and storms.  We had several incher of rain and then thunder snow.  Lucky we were hunkered down at a campsite.

Your POD today made me think you and your hearty crew would LOVE a big tarp made in the DRY-FLY style.

Closed on 3 sides to block wind/snow and set close to fire so the heat reflects inside.

For cold weather paddling, it would be a great addition.

I hope I never experience these conditions on a canoe trip.  Maybe in my 20's or 30's I would think this would be an adventure of sorts but for me today this is great weather to be in a cabin or outside on skis or snowshoes near the cabin.

I had condition like that in October on Tuscarora in the BW. Geez, that was a cold morning after!

We frequently sleep under the stars during our October trips if the weather is clear, and actually have one hearty soul that sleeps out under that tarp during that stormy weather on our trip.  Not me, I'd estimate 5 degrees warmer in the tent.

I've done some cold weather camping and did the same thing, sleeping under the stars because it was clear when I went to bed.

One thing I've learned going to the Q is even in warm weather how quick the weather can change.

I like at least having a tarp up overhead vs waking up in the rain/sleet of snow.  Wink Cry Grin Grin
