Is that NP stealing a fish you have on a stringer?
Looks like it.

At first quick glance I thought that fish was already in the frying pan!

Nah, just a quiet guy on a quiet journey. Smiley

Actually, I was in camp that morning for a layover day and while all I really wanted to do was make pancakes for breakfast… it was my turn to get lucky - I guess.

Looking closely at the (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links), there's the head of a calf visible between her front and back legs. The bear followed a minute or two later. They had gotten into it earlier and made a noise that literally raised the hair on the back of my head and that's not even the beginning of the story. I have eluded to that morning at times so doing a search for "calf in tow" or "ravens soap" (w/o the quotes similar to the examples attached) will offer some bits and pieces of the whole story. That bear actually ran off with my spare paddle at one point. It was the paddle I grabbed to protect myself earlier that morning so I was beginning to take it personally by that point. Then he swam to the mainland where I was reloading the canoe! I don't believe me either but it all happened and it's still overwhelming to me.

If I have posted the whole story before, I'd love to read it if anyone can find it. And thanks, all, for the comments on the pics. We could use some PODs btw.  Wink

As rare as that might be, its for times like this I care my BEAR SPRAY! If that bear was willing to go after a cow moose with calf it wouldn't hesitate to take down the NEXT best thing.

Solo being mauled/killed by a bear is one thing.
Being so hurt you suffer and die from you injuries or the bear comes back to feed on you while your still alive is even worse.

Ya, I know, you have a better chance of being hit by lighting, but that's not much comfort when YOUR the paddle.  Wink  Cry Grin Grin

I've had a few Northerns go for Walleyes on my stringer over the years. I notice it when they move the canoe and they don't like to let go so taking that pic wasn't a problem.
