That didn't come out too good.  I'll figure this out one of these days.    ........Mike

Today's POD is from our north end camp on Roland Lake, facing south.  If you look through the trees and into the distance, you can see the pinch point that we trolled for those trout.

Sparkling waters + good weather + good company = good camp!

I'm with Wally13 on frying fish.  I use peanut oil.  I believe it gives the best flavor and is easier to pack and clean up.  I just load up a Nalgene bottle or two in the half liter size and food sealer bag it for transport .  It's also versatile for frying anything else.

Never poached fish, but may try it.  We ran into a couple on one trip that told us about how they'd cube up a laker and poach the cubes on bamboo skewers ala fondue, then dip them in drawn butter.  Now that sounds good.  Butter makes everything better. Well, that and bacon.  I pack regular butter in a snap-lock-lid container on every trip, never had an issue with spoilage.

I believe I spot (on the right side of the picture) a stack of wood that your brother and I did some work on.

I remember passing by this campsite on at least 3 previous trips and not giving it much thought.  Glad we investigated further on this trip ... turned out to be a very good site and much larger that it appears from the water's edge.

I like to cut lakers and waldos into bite sized chunks, sprinkle with Cajun seasoning and fry in butter and bacon. Mmmm Cool

It is simple to clarify your own butter before your trip. Has all the advantages for cooking (high smoke point great flavor etc)and for camping it makes the melt point much higher, making it easy to handle and less likely to leak- oil being quite skillful at making its way out of containers. I don't leave home (for the Q anyway) without it.

Clarified butter and Ghee are both good. Subtle but important difference between the two. If you can make your own Clarified butter, then Ghee is just a EXTRA step away.  Wink

Not really an extra step, it's more a matter of just letting it heat a little longer- a little inattention and your clarified becomes ghee- the difference is insignificant.

ST - thanks for that link....looks like a fine way to roast a pike and would seem delicious.  Sometimes the best flavor is all in the food itself without adding to it.  I have also smoked lake trout filets over my Purcell trench grill by tenting some heavy duty foil over it and a small fire below and away from the grill and adding soaked alder sticks for the smoke.  Takes a bit of time, but very tasty.

OS - butter AND bacon...what a concept!

I like to clarify BUTTER by typing in all caps - if that ain't clear, you just don't get it!  Cheesy
