Did any of you guy's try going out thru Ceph Lk when you left Burnside? Just curious, I've never taken the actual portage in Burntside.

ST -

That would be negatory.  It’s a well-known habitat for pollyhumpers.  I don’t have the energy to deal w/those suckers like I did in my youth. I keep my distance.

Jimbo.  Cool

I like today's POD.
Looks like a Canoe Summit with that Safari Table.  Wink Grin Grin

ST,

That would be a Magic Paddler custom-designed piece of furniture/art work, I’ll have you know!

You’re talking about a collector’s item some day!

Jimbo.  Cool

PS. I know, I know... trash collector!

I think the next logical step is to hire some Portage Monkey's so you can REALLY travel in style.  Wink Grin Grin

I use one of my 5 gallon DIY food barrels as a dining table and the other one to set my stove on.

It's so much nicer than bending over or kneeling on the ground when you can sit in your camp chair, under a tarp if you wish and prepare a meal.

Where was that camp?  Had to be this year there is 2 of high back chairs.  The table top is the plywood frame for my back pack.

Magic,

We were on Jean Lake on our way out. Wally13 actually took the picture and I inadvertently slipped it into the ones I sent to db.  Then again, I think maybe he took the picture with MY camera, so I’m not entirely sure who’s picture it is. Anyway, it was taken on Jean Lake, right beside that sandy beach.

I think almost everything you bring along on a trip has multiple uses.  Were you using nails to put that together or did you whittle some wooden pegs?

Jimbo.  Cool

Please forgive me for always being the dull on in the herd.  Was Burntside your final destination, or just the one you happen to be discussing at the moment. I have some interest in traveling that part of the park someday soon.

Mossback,

This was your basic "out & back" style trip for MagicPaddler, Wally13 & myself.  After our put-in at Beaverhouse, we paddled the long southern arm of Quetico Lake, cut south through Conk Lake to Jean Lake, where we made our first camp (due to high winds, we could go no further that day).  After spending the night at camp 35L near the point in the west bay (couldn't nab 35M; it was already taken), we cruised through the pinch point (where we were joined by TomT, whose route was different than ours) and across the east bay to Burntside Lake campsite FA, where we spent several days with Tom & Luna.  A few days later, we doubled back to Jean, staying at campsite D4, where we spent another couple days (TomT headed south into Sturgeon & beyond).  Next stop was the west end of Quetico Lake and campsite 3Y.  I guess we spent 10 days in the park, all told.  We had a great trip and Burntside proved to be an outstanding "destination lake."  Many of the lakes in that region are.  I'll be happy to share details when I see you at Copia.

With luck, I think there's a decent chance my account of this trip will appear in the Fall 2019 issue of the BWJ.  If so, I suspect the legend of  MagicPaddler will acquire mythical status....

Later,

Jimbo   Cool

Looking forward to hearing the verbal version from various participants prior to reading the written version with the edits. Cool

No nails used!  I pounded 3 sticks in the ground and set the plywood on top.
