It’s on the way way back to the Mudro put in. Somewhere south of Fourtown I believe. It had rained every day of this 8 night trip. The only sunny day was this one and the water levels were really up. I went through some real soakers that trip.

Thanks.  It was a watercolor painting come to life.  I had not seen the sun all week on this solo in 2007.  Clouds and rain every day and then one evening this happened. It's one reason why I love doing these trips.  Smiley

I love those misty cool mornings and a cup of steaming hot coffee to start the day.

Like my gas station cup? My tripping style has evolved since 2008.  Cool

When I looked if we were out of PODs yet last night, I could seriously smell those smells (Thank you)! And FWIW, the cup was a bit of of a downer but hey, I like my coffee and you added that smokey... wait, wait wait, what? No smoke?

Who the hell, let you in here anyway? Wink

We're out PODs folks. Jimbo sent me some as filler but his always suck so...

Speaking of which...

For "filler", I was quickly & almost randomly selecting pics I've taken over the past 30 years.  Guess I didn't realize just how FAR back I went.  Those are the front ends of two Old Town Penobscot royalex canoes in today's POD... which I haven't owned in this century.  Bought them WAY back because they're virtually indestructible and I had two young boys prone to knocking them around on rocks.

One of the best things about THOSE canoes is how GOOD they made my future kevlar vessels feel when portaging!

I'm not sure exactly where I was in this pic but I'm guessing either Cirrus or Quetico lake....

I can't tell from your pic Jimbo, does your Dry-fly have awning like mine does?

ST,

No, that was a standard dry fly made for the BWJ and sold by that magazine.  I would sometimes string it up right beside someone else's overhead kitchen tarp... which gave a kind of "Arabian Sheik's look" to our camps.

I sold that shelter to another QJ'er many years ago but have since owned other lean-to's.  My only gripe about that particular product was its weight.  It's NOT the 1.1 oz silicone coated cloth that CCS uses in its comparable products which, of course, DO have the awning feature you mention.  On the other hand, the material on the BWJ lean-to was rugged as heck; you simply couldn't kill it.

My guess is that it is still in use, somewhere, with many-a-jug to be tipped under it yet....

My version was made by the OLD Kondo's outdoors and has a 10" awning, which is really nice to keep rain from coming in and reflecting campsite heat.

Yup, it's not the lightest but since I have just a solo tent under it, it's manageable weight wise at least for now.

My Dry-fly is starting to show its age. IC did a great job of repairing it but I have plans for my next one on paper.

It will be a Sil-Nylon version, same look but instead of 4 ft wings, it will have 5 ft ones and a 12" awning.

A lighter color to let some more light in too.
I'll get IC to make it. I found a great place online for tarps. Will buy an 11 x 10 for the main body and 10 x 10 for the wings.

Should come in at a lower weight but MORE inside height.
