After a 10” awning, a 12” one will feel downright spacious. Imagine a full foot of room. Grin

By going to a 11 x 10 pre-made tarp IC won't have to cut a special piece for the awning. So yup that extra 2" is going to save me money and IC a lot of extra work.  Wink

My guess is that it is still in use, somewhere, with many-a-jug to be tipped under it yet....

If that lean-to could talk . . .  It's my cigar room when it's raining.

Nice try but I think it was 4W on the Maligne.  It was so many years ago that I can't recall, for sure.  Though I've been by it many times, I don't recall actually camping on 15N... though it IS possible.

Yesterday & today's PODs are of relatively recent vintage (ie. only 4-5 years old) & were taken at the island site, 1NZ, on Rawn Lake.  My fellow paddler & chef is shown in yesterday's POD enjoying both a cocktail & cigar in the fresh water spring that bubbles up on the south side of the island.  It was an incredibly hot August week, perhaps the hottest I've ever experienced in Quetico.  That swimming hole was at least 10 degrees cooler than the other water surrounding the island... and the ONLY refreshing spot we could find.  I think we spent twice as much time swimming than fishing that trip due to the oven-like heat and jungle humidity.  The fish weren't biting, anyhow.

We ran into & shared a camp with db at the tail-end of that trip up on Pickerel on our way out.  During the hour or so before a dark & nasty thunderstorm struck, walleye fishing suddenly turned on & went crazy.  As I recall, we enjoyed a nice fish fry together before parting company.

Later,

I've done a lot of trips but in years to come that day will probably stand out and not only because the fried fish hit the spot. What I'll remember most is having a tailwind I didn't like and so was aiming for the much better campsite a hundred yards away. The connection was cool and all but I didn't want to intrude but then when I tried to leave Ma Nature said in no uncertain terms stay right where you are, moron.

She was right and I enjoyed myself and the company of everyone in your group tremendously. Thanks for the hospitality!

The BWJ cast aluminum fry pan. I bring mine on group trips.  I think they redesigned the handle on that.

TomT,

I've had guys that swore at me if I DIDN'T bring that pan.  I've also had other guys swear I was an idiot if I DID bring it.  It's well-seasoned & does a phenomenal job with walleye.  On the other hand, having gone through a couple of major surgeries, my "carrying cost" (so to speak) is a bit higher these days.  I'll still bring it, on occasions, but there'd better be an army to feed to justify it!

That's my older son in the last two pics.  My younger son appears (in the background) in the pic before those... and, NO, he's NOT the guy in the sun glasses smoking the stoagie & drinking a cocktail!

I seem to remember the fire pit being full of vegetation when we arrived (and I cleared it while awaited your return).

(My first experience with the cast aluminum beast.  I remember fantastic Laker fishing there.)
