I was thinking I could catch Luna a hammer handle a day and never have to pack in dog food.  Grin Grin

You probably could feed Luna and yourself at least a few meals. When the NP is cooked the skin/scales peel back. I take a plate, put in body cavity and use a fork to pull the meat right off the bones.

As long as you checked it good for bones there is no reason Luna couldn't have some high quality fish protein.

Today's POD = a cold morning after "the big blow" in Opasquia.  In this pic, DentonDoc & MagicPaddler are shown during breakfast the next morning.  They had a long night, helping me pull my shelter out of the treetops just after midnight, a few hours earlier.  Wind direction & velocity changed in a big way, sending my lean-to style shelter aloft.  It blew up just like a balloon!

What is the blue back ground?  It looks like water but there are no waves and the wind never stopped while we were up there.

Going to try the roasted fish thing.  It might keep my brother from eating them raw.  Thanks for the tip!

Back before I was a solo tripper, I was in a group of 6 that made our first trip to the BWCA.

We camped one night where a feeder stream was emptying into the lake. I started catching 2-3 lb SMB
every other cast. The guys built a fire and started cleaning fish.

I was so into catching them, the other guys started frying them up and eating them before I came back to camp. I ended up cooking my own dinner.

Fast forward to the next day and one by one as my buddies came back after using the bathroom they said they had WORMS in their stool! Tongue Grin Grin

Turns out the guy who was frying the fish hadn't cooked them properly. I was the ONLY one who didn't have this issue.

I've NEVER forgotten that. I cook my fish thoroughly the same as you would poultry.
If you brother ever gets worms, he will too.  Wink Grin Grin

Today’s picture is from the THIRD different campsite on EAST Lake (OPP), but not the last.  We ultimately camped at the west edge of East Lake.

We returned to the pictured campsite via a different route, utilizing a short portage hinted to in an old map.  It was the only site we used more than once during our trip.

CAMPER ALERT: Camping on East Lake in Opasquia Park may lead to medical issues, including the possibility of becoming exsanguinated. Proceed with caution and drink gallons of flaxseed oil in advance!!!
