Jimbo's new rapid weight loss technique.....have the skeeters suck all your blood out.  Pretty sad when the poor mosquitos are so full that they can't fly anymore. Cry

Today's POD isn't anywhere in the Q.
That was the year of my early ice-out trip where I was stranded on BH because of the ice breaking up.

This picture is of Lake Superior on the way up to Atikokan. Those " whitecaps" are actually sheets of ICE crashing into shore.

The photo doesn't do them justice but it was the only place I could pull over. Those slabs were the size of a swimming pool and a foot thick or more.

The sound they made hitting the rocks was something too.

ST,

I figured that was Superior as I have similar pics taken on the north end of the North Shore.  However, I'm glad you clarified re: those ice chunks, though.  I missed that entirely.  I figured it was "foam" and that Superior was particularly riled up that day!

Was that shot taken on the North Shore OR maybe from within Ontario with Superior to your south?  I'm thinking from where you live, you might be coming in that way.

It was along the route from Sault St. Marie to Thunder Bay. I've said this before but if you've NEVER been up that way, it's worth the effort.

The views of Superior with the Granite cliffs of the Canadian escarpment rival those of driving along the California coast north to Sacramento. On a clear day, you can see for miles. In the fall you have the trees bursting with color inland and deep blue Superior on the other side.

Plenty of spots to turn-out and take pics/stretch your legs or eat lunch.

One thing I've never done but need to before I get too old to drive is do the CIRCLE tour in the fall around Superior with a good camera.

I second Solotripper's suggestion about the drive on the north shore of Superior from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie.  Beautiful scenery, and a wonderful road.  Made us wonder why we drove through Michigan's UP for so many years before we discovered it.

We have never taken the circle drive all at one time, but after we finish our trip to Michigan's Keweenau Peninsula this next July, I think we will have pretty much done all of the circle in bits and pieces.  I love Superior!  Just a wonderful place to be!

I like your picture, ST.  I knew it was Superior as soon as I saw it, but I didn't recognize that that was ice on the lake.  Seems odd to me to have ice like that in September.  Is the date stamp on your photo correct?

Your right of course. My little digital camera which I like has a flaw(?) I hate. When the battery goes dead and you change it out, it loses the date/function. It's weird because the rest of the settings stay as I set them.

That pic was EARLY May 2016.

I have returned home and, as promised, I'm providing an update on the dosage level for Flaxseed Oil (on this thread, since it was mentioned here).

The daily dosage amount I'm using is 1200 mg.  (And you should be reminded that this is used in conjunction with clothing treated with permethrin.)

I love pancakes on canoe trips but hard to justify carrying the weight when solo.  I might just carry a bit for 2 breakfasts this year.  They are so good especially with blueberries. Hard to do on my whisperlite stove though.

Foodpacks if you like to eat well can get very heavy.
My 2-21 day trips made me realize that was just about my limit weight wise although I did have enough food left I could have squeaked by another week IF I spent more time fishing.

One thing about food packs, you can LIGHTEN then really easy if you plan a few camp days in strategic places. I rather work-out to carry the load and eat well than not at least for now. The day will come when weight rules my day, but until then I'm eating
as well as I can.

You should practice at home making pancakes on your stove, maybe you can find a new technique that works well for you?

Looking at that pic, I'm not SURE that is a pancake?
It MIGHT be frypan bread? The principal is still the same and so is the weight factor.  Wink Grin Grin

One of the guys I've gone with got a nice simmer with his Whisperlite by keeping the tank pressure low. He also had a way of raising his pan a bit higher than resting on the stove arm supports.
