There is a guy who uses a SUP to fly fish on the lake my brother and I bass fish on. It has a leaning bar to help him keep his balance as he casts. If you have good balance and the right board you can get by without one.

Another must-have item if you're going to SUP besides that PFD, is a board leash that attaches to your ankle so you don't have to swim after it. The wind comes up your not going to catch it.  Huh Shocked Cry

Nice to be paddling when it's that calm Cool . Where is Poplar Lake?

We had beautiful, calm days for our paddling during the week we were there.  We stayed at Rockwood Lodge, which is right on the Guntflint Trail (a little more than halfway to the end of the trail), in a cabin that is right on the lake.

Poplar is not a BWCA entrance lake, but it nearly is, as the Lizz Lake entry point comes off Poplar.  I have a trip report on BWCA.com that has many photos, but I didn't have time right now to do one here, and anyway, I doubt that anyone on this Quetico board would be all that interested in a trip with a grandchild that includes a week at a cabin and no wilderness canoe trip at all.

I think this was a cheap board, just what they have available for the people who stay at the cabins.  And she wouldn't have gone so far out if it hadn't been a very calm morning.  But I hear what you are saying.   Smiley

If she hadn't been able to retrieve the board, we would have gone out in the canoe to rescue her.  I am sure that would have been really embarrassing for her, so I am glad that she handled the problem.  She is 16, and she has been going with us to the canoe country ever since she was 4 years old.  It has been fun to see how her skills have developed, and also how her love for northern Minnesota has grown.

Nice pic of the cloud reflection.  It's interesting that there's more water and less sky in the pic.  It puts the emphasis of the picture on the reflection.  I'll have to keep that in mind.

By the way, I enjoy and am interested in hearing about other's families.

Thanks........

I love reflection shots.  My husband's favorite one is attached.  We ordered a canvas of it, and when it arrived they had it set up to hang upside-down--with the sky on the top!  Of course they did!  Isn't the sky always above the trees?   Grin Grin Grin

I'm a big fan of reflection shots too.  Cool
The best ones IMHO are ones where you really can't tell how they were initially orientated.

When I edit my pics before putting them on-line, I'll sometimes FLIP the pic 180 degrees to get a better reflection shot.  Wink Grin Grin

I'm not real good at sitting still for any period of time (except for hunting of course) but I will take time to watch the big fluffy white clouds float through a clear blue sky.  They make me think of big ships sailing across an ocean.   Nice shot.

I am the same way about clouds, especially if they are over water.  A lovely blue sky with puffy clouds is much more appealing to me than a clear one.  I even like the big gray clouds that we sometimes get in Michigan in the fall.  As long as they don't rain on me!!
