No mystery here.  db has managed to photograph a rare "wood nymph," emerging from it's cocoon below the detritus and tangle of the forest floor.  A blue one, in fact... exceedingly rare!

Okay, no more beating around the BRUSH so to speak!  Wink Grin Grin

Am I the only one that wants to know what that WHITE round object is on the right side of the pic.  Undecided

I know what it looks like, but I never saw anyone haul one on a canoe trip so I have to think its something else altogether.  Grin Grin

It's an upside-down, wide-brimmed hat, right?

Yeah that's my hat and the square thing is my camera case if that helps.

We were windbound for three days in a row so we killed the third day on a long hike to a high cliff. It was worth the time but pretty much the whole way was pick up sticks like that.

That kid was a trooper. He never uttered a discouraging word the entire 9(?) day mostly crappy weather trip. He was a pretty good paddler too.

Hmmm....and I thought it was the suction cup on the bottom of the tree holding it to the rock it was growing on the side of until the wind blew it off.... Embarrassed

I see these all the time on portages.
I wish you could take them like you do fish in the Q.
I have a great way to cook one whole on the campfire.  Wink Grin Grin

I've been scared more than once by these little buggers.
