If you look real close it "appears" there is a NUB on the left side of that top red rope?

That would give you a point to throw/use stick to get rope over.
The bottom rope looks like a loop around trunk and they used something to push it up?

I find it interesting how there is always something different to learn from how we all do similar things.  Smiley

Good eyes, the orange rope is up over a nub and then tied lower on the next tree back. The bungies that are keeping tension are on that first tree up high but not as high as the rope. Not sure if that was teamwork or standing on the barrel to get that high.

Another way to get elevation with the rope is to push it up with a long stick. But you probably know that.

My first ever trip to canoe country was a long loop planned by my dad when I was probably 15. I loved it...except for carrying the aluminum canoes. Ever since, it's always been Kevlar and my portaging has greatly improved.

Today's pic is a rented Seneca that did great on a 3 person trip. This was a lunch spot on a day trip on LLC and I'd call it a 1 star island site, but very photogenic

db,

Today’s POD... the far eastern end of the northern tier of Cirrus Lake?

I thought the western end of Sturgeon Narrows?

One of those little island spots that look so nice when the weather is sunny/calm and when the weather turns bad you wonder why the hell you stayed there.  Undecided Wink Grin Grin

It's the island on the eastern end of Sturgeon Narrows near the outflow from Russell. This was the day I couldn't get past the first island going up to Russell and headed for the crazy stairway portage so it doesn't look like it normally would.

I was off a little, more mid-way in the Narrows.
I never stayed there but stopped for break/lunch a few times.
When the water is high like db's pic it looks like that.
Water low its a HIGH campsite perched on a big rock.  Wink Grin Grin
