I was so cold that I felt like I did on my canoe trip with Jimbo and Magic last year in Q when my exped went flat!
We DID have some chilly nights during that Spring trip, didn't we?! Seems to me it was particularly chilly those rainy nights we spent at the Veron Lake island campsite.
Cold transmits so readily when lying directly on the ground. Of course, I was in my hammock... but even in there I slept on an inflatable pad AND with heat-reflecting mylar fabric on top of that! When that wind whistles in under you and there's nothing but hammock material between you and it AND your sleeping bag insulation is compressed underneath you, well... THAT's what they make those under quilts for! Got to invest in one of those one of these days.
I guess my "personal padding" being more substantial than yours is one of the few blessings it yields.
Speaking of chilly, we woke up to a Winter Wonderland this morning, as we got an inch or two of snow here last night. At least it didn't snow on us at Veron Lake. I've only had that happen a time or two and, I gotta tell you, it ain't much fun rolling out of a hammock, practically buck naked, to get dressed in a snow squall! I had that happen to me in May a few years back on Poohbah Lake. Yikes!
Thanks for posting pics again so soon! When do you start pedaling across America???
