Reminds me of a postcard you might see in a gift shop.

I'd like to be SITTING by that fire....with a cup of coffee of course!

SP2....you got me wondering what I was doing in 1992.  Smiley Smiley

Where the heck did the time go??

Stay safe.......

I WAS sitting by that fire, and no doubt with a cup of coffee.

1992 was a good year for us, at least the first half.  After Spartan1 developed severe anemia and discovered that his kidneys were failing (probably in about September) our lives changed markedly.  Forever.

That trip was my favorite.  We were different people then.

It always amazes me to see where life can take hold, such as the tree on the rock.

Stay safe.......

I literally have thousands of photos of the canoe country.

But this particular one has the most vivid memories of any of them, and it is probably my #1 favorite.  I had a poster made of it, and even now, when I look at that image, I am transported back to early July of 1992.

I didn't want the 22-day trip to end.  We had some nasty weather, and we didn't end up doing the route we had planned.  None of our challenges were that amazing, but the feeling of being in the BWCA for 21 days, and waking up on that last morning, all of it was just so fresh in my mind and so precious.

What you cannot see, is that there was a single loon just out of camera range, calling softly.  Spartan1 had built a little "junk fire" of pine branches for a bit of warmth, and we made instant coffee.  As he often did, he took his coffee to a "view" point, and was contemplating there under the big tree on Caribou Lake.

It was a magic moment.  Even with a scan from a film photo, I can see every detail in my mind's eye.  But then, my mind's eye is much sharper than any camera.   Wink

Spartan 2,

Glad you are here to be a calming influence on the rest of us hooligans.....otherwise the name of the site might change from Quiet Journey to Noisy Argument, or some such thing.

Today's POD has been the "screensaver" on my PC since that last canoe trip, in September, 2019.  It's my daily dose of "good times" which I find especially helpful these days. It's just one of many memories encouraging me to hang tough through Corona lockdown.

Better days are coming!
