I'm guessing this was on East Lake.

(For those unfamiliar with the geography of Opasquia Provincial Park, this is a joke.)

A remarkable guess, DD!

Didn't seem to matter how many portages or how many lakes we passed we passed through. We always seemed to be on East Lake. A kind of voyage in the Twilight Zone....

I remember this spot well.  Magicpaddler is in the background, while I'm in the foreground.  Between us lies the "chute" running down into Cocos Lake.  A decent amount of water was flowing down the chute; one could certainly not paddle it up stream and it would be a more than a bit dicey for this paddler to do it down stream.

The short "portage" up to this point lies behind the photographer (Jimbo) through/over a boulder jumble that would flow down to Cocos only in periods of very high water.  It was dry for our passage.

Around to the left is our nice campsite.

Fairly decent walleye fishing along these shores.

I'm not the one who should answer this question.  Yesterday's picture showed MP armored up in the fight against the pesky insects.  Me ... not so much.  I did have a head net along on the trip, but I seem to remember only needing it a couple of evenings near sunset.

My clothes were treated, along with the bandana and hat you see me wearing in today's shot.  T-shirt was not treated.  However, I believe this shot was taken late morning, so the early assault was probably over.

HighnDry,

DD has it right as late morning & few bugs.  Since I was within a stone's throw of his radioactive handkerchief, I would have been within his "permethrin cone of protection", anyway.  Even small animals keep their distance from him when he has that thing on!

MagicPaddler, however, was taking some risk as he was likely near the edge of the safe zone.  FYI

That is a great pic!
I think IC has to be close to the top of the list of time spent paddling/camping.

QP even has his trademark cigar in his mouth. In following years, I would follow his "smoke signals" as he led the way down the portage trail.

QP, IC & several others appeared on my Cairn Lake island on a very nasty, cold, rainy, misty afternoon.  The quest: the very first Bushwackers Jamboree.

Some of my fondest Quetico memories were made there.

You were there in spirit, Old Salt.  You are the one who inspired those danged Pink Flamingo campsite markers which brought the flock in out of those mists!

It was quite a group.

Later,
