Portage Dog was a Voyageur in a past life.  I'm convinced.  He's the right size and has endurance off the charts.

Thanks TomT. My co-workers swear I'm part Canadian...you may be on to something.

Jimbo does have a way with words...re: his caption....perhaps Host with Most?  or perhaps the 'Hostess' was referring to my cupcakes?  Shocked Cheesy Roll Eyes Wink

I've been meaning to mention that yellow chair in the gear section, so this is a good opportunity.  That is the new last year Big Agnes Skyline UL, saw it first at 'copia last March and set me mind to get one.  MOST AWESOME!  They've managed to do away with the plastic knuckles with all metal frame construction.  This makes the chair sturdier, more stable, lighter, and pack smaller than a comparable REI or Helinox model.  The crossbar is split, so it helps compensate on uneven ground by flexing.  The chair also sits you more upright, making it easier to sit down in/get up out of, cook from, eat and generally perform any task you'd rather not have a lounge chair for.  HIGHLY recommended.  There are two larger chairs and two sizes of table with the same all metal frame construction.  I can't believe someone didn't do this sooner, but I can believe it was BA who pulled it off.  Have seat!

Yeah, that phrase from a 1960's era commercial (television show?) just sort of popped out of my head.  Now I wish I could pop it back in there! No insult intended. I didn't really think it through....

I'll say this, Stu.  I've never ever eaten as well on a canoe trip as I did when you fixed meals!  Also, I'll second TomT's opinion that you are some sort or reincarnated Voyageur.  I simply could not have navigated some of those tricky spots on portages without your help.  Too many surgeries and too many years, I guess.

In any case, you are, indeed, the Host with the Most!

Re: today’s POD:

“THE MAGIC MAN,
THE MAGIC MAN,
IF HE CAN’T DO IT,
NO ONE CAN!”

(Traditional Voyageur “drinking song,” often heard during fur traders’ annual “Rendezvous;” concerns a mythical character of legendary paddling prowess.  Origin: UNKNOWN)

That's a canoe tripper right there.  Wonder how many days he'll be in the parks this year?

Might be quicker to count in the other direction, "days he's not in park."  You can seldom find him in the park because he's usually where no one else goes.  Would be easier to check to see if his house lights are on; use that number for your calculation.

Grin He was probably a native American in a previous life.

Re the next POD - Luna is good ballast for when out fishing.  I've taken to filling 2 medium sized dry bags with water for the stern.  She's surprisingly calm when I catch a fish.  Indifferent would be the word.

More likely a bearded "paddling gnome," skillful in eluding Bigfoot and other predators of the boreal forest (in times of yore) and prone to taking paths less traveled... which is why they are seldom seen.  This specimen is larger & friendlier than most.  Someone most likely coaxed him out of the wild by leaving a cookie out by the campfire one night.  He simply wandered into camp to check it out and decided to stick around for more.  Notice the "signature" safety pin atop his orange hat. That's how you know it's a friendly gnome and not one of those trickster half-gnomes that some of us have run into out in the wild. Those guys are half-rabbit (Nanabozho) and can raise all sorts of havoc in a camp with their nocturnal pranks... but that's another story.

Later,

Nice POD today Jimbo Smiley

You can tell it's a MANCAVE camp though because there was no-one to tell you to move it a little more right and up just a little on the left and HOLD it! OR maybe it would look better on THOSE trees over there?  Wink Grin Grin
